Northern Illinois Meeting!

Okay so if no one has any ideas then I guess I will throw a date out. How about a meeting at the Clocktower Restaurant in Rockford at 9:00am on Saturday March 26th. We can either discuss a hunt date, if the ground is still frozen, or we can eat and then go hunt. What do you think?

Any idea where to hunt? I know there is that big park off of Alpine but do not know if it is legal to hunt there. Is there anyone here on the forum from Rockford?

That would be great. Is he in the Rockford area? I know someone in Byron, about 12 miles south of Rockford, might be something around there we could hunt as well. I'll see what I can find out.

Why Rockford? Is it everyone from Rockford because that's like more then hour far from me. I know Bowman64 is from Aurora, me too and Tech125 is from Palatine. Also what kind hunting place we are talking about? I have more then one old place(school, park, forest preserve) for hunting and I do hunt mainly now for older coins. I don't mind coming over there it's just I would like to know if we are just hunting regular park or you guys have some older place in mind. Thanks and HH. Mike

No idea where everyone else is from but Rockford is an hour from me. Amxfred is from Dekalb so Rockford is about an hour for him as well. Still a bit of a big town for me but I can deal with it for a few hours. Apparently someone there has 100 acres we might be able to hunt and I know someone in the Byron area so I'm checking there.

Sorry, been away for awhile. My 100 acres has an old homestead on it. I have found quite a few item including 20 silver coins and about 15 wheaties over the last 3 years. I use the basement of the foundation as a burn pile (wish I did not). The entrance of my property use to have an old barn that since has burned down and now part of an open fied that is plowed under (did find a 1898 indian head in the middle of the field and a 1972 class ring) Have not hunted that much.

The remainder of the property has an old mobile home I fixed and have built some other building I use during hunting season.

The rest is in CRP land and open fields, not sure what could be in those fields.

It is available (other than hunting season for deer) but is an option. It appears most people are closer to chicagoland so I vote for closer to the western suburbs for some places and my property may be better at a later date.
Don't want people to go that far and be disappointed.

How about we set up two hunts. One in the Rockford area and then one in the western suburb area. I am in the middle so I would go to both. My new E-trac needs to see some action as soon as possible. We are both just sitting here looking out the window.

I'm sure there would be people interested in that. We could try one out this way as well and, if anyone wants to travel, I might be able to find us some land in southern Illinois to hunt and that could be a prime area.

Just flew back from San Antonio, Texas. Had a week of meetings and got to go to the Alamo. Wouldn't let me bring my detector to the Alamo. It was 84 degrees when I left. I may have found my retirement home someday. What a nice place. Came back home to this huge blizzard and the reality of Illinois weather. Well back to work and looking out the window until spring!

I'm up for either...

Count me in for either also... I just want to get out!

My cabin fever is becoming critical. My brother is out in Portland, OR... he's been MD'ing all through winter... Grrr!
