Newbie in Huntington Beach.

Does anyone have any experience in huntington beach? I just got a metal detector and wanted to try to get some insight, no so much as strategy, but more on the rules of doing it.so I guess the dos and donts. Thank you in advance.

The rules are simple. Remove the trash metal you find. Fill your holes. Enjoy yourself.

Your gonna use a few things. Some clues when hunting a beach. Low lying spots, or cuts. Lots of shells, mud or rocks tend to be on low spots.

You should find heavier targets there too...like quarters, and nickles. Your in the right area if your digging lots of them.

Just a matter of reading beach, skill, and getting lucky. Welcome to the forums. GL an HH -Joe

Thanks again, I'll have a full report later tonight.

HB is a pretty good spot, around the pier (North & South side)..Probably not gonna find much in the wet sand, most likely sanded in and the tide is high..Best bet would probably be the dry sand, towel line around the life guard towers and around the Volley Ball area, which are abundant around the pier. I would grid all these areas methodically..Also If your hunting at night, It might help to have a head-lamp to help locate targets. Curfew for HB is 10pm, so watch out for the Beach Patrol..Good luck and have fun!

Thanks for all the tips everyone, I'm really new to this so I'm learning as I go, I just bought a low end model MD to try out and see if (I liked it, was good at it,and could find bottlecaps lol) the Garrett ACE 150. Today I went too early in HB so there were still people at all the hot spots. I want to go back later closer to dark>curfue. I was there about an hour trying to dodge people so I decided to call it. I live in HB so I can go there anytime. Heres my catch for an hour of walking along the guard towers.

:digginahole:1 Nail
:digginahole:2 Bottle Caps
:digginahole:1 Fishing Lure
:digginahole:1 Rock that I thought looked neat

The good news....I actually found something...

I actually felt weird out there detecting on the beach, felt like everyone was looking at me funny lol..

Had some issues that probably had to do with my poor equipment , and lack of skill. seemed like every swing I was getting a beep of some sort, literally every swing. then if I got an intense ding like I was right over something with a really strong signal, it would then disappear when I swung the MD over the same spot. I guess itll just take some time to get used to my gear.

Looks like you might need to adjust your settings a little bit, I think with your machine you should be able to discriminate out Iron targets..Test out your machine on some coins and jewelry if possible and get a feel for the machine..

Also, with the Ace 150, I think your best bet would be in the dry sand, you will most likely get a lot of false signals in the wet sand due to black sand, salt, minerals..

Keep at it, you'll be finding all kinds of goodies, especially with Spring Break going on..;)
