You will like that charger, 2 hours and your fully charged.

As for returning the threshold, I have a nickle in my left boot. I can use that to check gold tones and I like that tone for threshold recovery. Just my personal preference.

2 hours that is a heck of a lot better than 16 hours of charging I could run it all day charge it and run it the next with out worrying of charging

Do you have the stock coil cover on it still? If so you might want to take it off and see if there is any sand in it. That can cause the Excal to act up....

should I connect the cover coil to the coil to prevent the sand and stuff from getting in. If so what should I use

Throw the coil cover away,you will never need it. Go out to your local hardware store and buy some loctite marine epoxy. Best stuff to use at the beach,it protects great and no annoying sand to get in and cause false signals.
