Hello Everyone,

I'm new to the metal detecting sport. My wife was gracious enough to get me a metal detector for my birthday and the kids and I are enjoying it. They are enjoying it because they think they will find pirate treasure and they get to get dirty. I enjoy it just seeing what is in the ground for so many years.

So far I've only been able to hit a park next to my house that has two beach/sand volleyball courts. So far, I've found almost a dollars worth of change, among other random items. Including a sharp beer can, that someone said thanks for finding. I assume so they wouldn't cut themselves on.

I was wondering if anyone knew of any good areas around southern Oregon that would be a good place to start. Preferably to take the kids (3) to? They would be excited to find something old and cool. As would I!

Thanks in advance! I hope to interact with everyone on here!

Welcome from Virginia!
I just recently got our youngest daughter into this hobby and she loves it.
Taking the kids along is a great thing.

My wife got me the Teknetics Delta 4000. She read a lot of info for decent beginner metal detectors and she got me this one. She know's more about it than I do! Hahaha!

Welcome to the forum! I went to Ashland not too long ago and was shocked that they wouldn't allow me to pump my own gas :D I had no clue about that Oregon law! Hope you get some good info from here... HH

Yeah it took me a while to get use to it too Cali. Oregon and NJ are the only two states in which you can't pump your own gas!

I'm going out this afternoon to go hunt. I will post pictures of what I find, if anything. :/

Try hitting at the off-season snow ski slopes, which are not too far from you there in Ashland . When all the snow has melted, hit around the lift lines area :)

Welcome to the Forum and from Western Washington! For starters, staying close to home, go to the nearest grade school. You will find lots of change, rings and other pieces of cheap jewelry. That will give you and your kids instant gratification and quick addiction to the hobby! HH

I would try hitting sledding areas when the snow is gone of course  The parking areas and the slopes. I'm sure you know of a few spots being from Ashland and all :p. My family lives up in Medford.. been through your parts quite a few times. Happy hunting out there and welcome to a very relaxing and addictive hobby!

Thanks everyone for the warm welcomes! I took the kids to the park last night so they could play around and I could hunt. Found a screw, a nut and bolt, and a penny. Part of hunting I suppose!

Welcome from Texas. I spent some time in Ashland, Medford and Grants Pass and alot of other places in Oregon. It don't get much prettier than Oregon. Have you ever hunted that real pretty park downtown? They might object to digging that place up though.
