New Minelab Equinox

Well that last park video was not very promising. Equinox seemed very noisy and didn't pick out any good targets in the trash. I hunt a lot of trashy parks so I was hoping for better results there. It was a short video so I won't put a ton of stock in it. I will say so far the beach videos are the only ones that have shown me anything interesting from equinox. I don't have a good beach detector so I am considering the equinox for that purpose.

When you see me comparing Equinox to Deus, that should tell you something.

For sure. The tests you have done made me take notice since I know you are a long time user and fan of the Deus. However my experience in the past has been that these staged or above ground tests often look promising only to have the real world in ground results fall short. I will keep watching your tests and other videos and keep an open mind for sure. I want to love the equinox and justify buying one believe me. Outside of the beach hunts I just hav not seen anything my etrac can't already do. And I may buy the equinox simply for my vacation beach hunts from what I have already seen.

Folks can believe what they want.
But I think a can take 2 nails (or even one nail) toss down on the ground and bury a dime a mere 3" deep. You sweep with Etrac stock coil, you won't see sweeping over the nails.
Equinox will sound off big time. Now you could rotate around and sweep and get the dime. But when you are detecting, how do you know when to turn when the Etrac go null over the nails?

Done been there and done that btw in the wild detecting.

I have done some of these tests myself as well but if you watch this video you will see the etrac can find good targets in iron as well.

To me it means that all the "bench tests" in the world won't really show what a detector can do. The proof is in the pudding as they say. Or in this case it's in the dirt. What a detector can find in the old dirt surrounded by years of trash is what really matters. I have yet to see the equinox show me anything in the field that most other detectors can't do. It is very early and I am not trying to bash any detector I just had high hopes for this new detector and I am not seeing the results in the field I had hoped for. Maybe once user's get more comfortable with this machine we will start to see better field results. It has only been a few days so I am not writing it off by any means. I am pretty sure I will be ordering one once they are back in stock simply due to its beach capabilities at this point.

In due time I think we all will see some head to heads comparing some other detectors like At pro, At Max, Deus, Etrac and others.

You hit on something here that I think I would compare to today's smartphones. killer new smartphones come out every year, iphones, notes, pixels all supposedly game breaking new devices that everyone has to have right?

Yeah they do cool stuff or have slightly updated screens but do they do it so much better than the one that came out a year or two ago? Not really...but is it worth it to a lot of people to have the extra 10% performance (or 10% better iron discrimination or whatever)...your GD right it does :)

I really value the info that TNS has displayed in this thread but I think one must take it with a grain of salt and just factor in what is worth it to them. These tests while awesome really only speak to a select amount of people and you might not be one of them.

Its good to be seeing some new videos. It will take a little time before people learn the machine and can start demonstrating any superior abilities it may have. So far there isn't much " WOW " factor , but everybody is just now starting to experiment with them.

Tn. Thanks for the info. Dead on arrival, not good. I hope this is a rare occurrence . The thought had crossed my mind of quality control slipping as Minelab has to crank up production, I hope this is not the case. Thanks for all your efforts in posting and testing. HH Mark ps. my guy told me I'm next on the list with the next shipment. Can't wait

I believe in reporting the good and the bad.
I don't know many actual units have been received and turned on and used.
But so far this is the only one I've seen reported publically with malfunction.
And seems Minelab is on top of getting remedied-which is important too.

I am definitely going to watch users as they progress with their units. Gotta watch myself too. Lol
Fresh water places- will be interesting to see what is found in them.
Lot of folks seems glued to salt water-beaches.
When temps start rising and more folks get units, the "real" cat will be out of the bag.
 
Would love to see a test with a coin between 2 nail and run the coil parallel to the long length of the nails. In my experience not many machines do as well in this situation as the donrunning the coil across the nail-coil-nail direction
