Hi everyone,

My name is Chris, and I'm from Bridgeport, Connecticut. I've been interested in metal detecting since I was a kid. In fact, I still have my first detector. It's something cheap and orange, powered by a 9 volt battery, and if I never hear the sound it makes again, it'll be too soon.

Other than that, I have another cheap-o, the Bounty Hunter Gold Digger, that we bought one Christmas for my son. Now that he's a young man, we recently picked up the Nokta Makro Simplex+ WHP Waterproof Detector along with a pair of Garett Pro Pointers. This Simplex+ seemed like a good choice for all-around use, including the beach. I'm thinking of getting another so that we can both have a decent detector when we hunt together. Otherwise we end up taking turns between that one and the BH, and that's just kind of lame.

The history aspect is my favorite part of detecting. I have very little experience, but I'd very much like to learn more about all of it, including digging neat plugs, securing and contracting permissions, maintaining the best etiquette, etc.. Of course, it would also be nice to make some new friends around all of that.

Thanks!

Hey Chris,
Welcome from next door in Fairfield.
Maybe go digging sometime.
Cheers!

A good place to practice is Beardsley Park where you live... I used to hunt it... there is still old silver in the park...

Hello Chris, welcome to the forum! I was down in your neck of the woods todays at Jennings beach. Did not find much but a Model T brass hubcap in the water and some clad. Happy hunting!

Welcome from Central Connecticut

Can't wait to see the fines your going to get.

Jim

Welcome! Yes I would second Beardsley Park for hunting. Lots of tips here in various pages for the beginner..

Welcome to the forum from Pittsburgh, Pa. There are some good videos on youtube on how to dig plugs. I noticed you mention contracts when talking about permissions. Probably better to keep it friendly with a handshake and a smile. If you mention a contract, some might start thinking about the legal ramifications, liability and so on. Just be up front with the land owner and make sure the who gets what is discussed. And go from there. Good luck, Mark

Welcome to the friendly! Simplex seems like a wise choice. A second one even wiser! I’m thinking of picking one up for my son or daughter to use, if they ever decide to go with me some day.
