New digging law North Myrtle Beach S.C.

Hummm, that would be an interesting legal test if someone dug a hole and only partially filled it in..... better yet when is a hole filled in? Guess ill dig my hole 11 3/4" next week....

Holes......

Why do some think that the "Beach Police" are after us metal detectors ? I probably dig the smallest of holes of all, when I dig on the beach, and I normally kick the sand back into the hole, in fact, I usually sift my digger right over the hole.

I'm sure this whole issue has been raised, due to the aforementioned "crater-like holes", that some over zealous beach goers tend to feel the need to create. When abandoned, these holes are dangerous. People can step into them at night. Vehicles can become disabled, if they happen to run into one of these "drunk pit" craters. What's the point ? Leave a potential hazard for someone to hurt themselves on ? Again, what's the point. Dicker about IDs, parents vs the kiddies, whatever. If you dig a %$*# crater, fill it back up before you leave the beach. Is that so hard?

Same thing has happened with the endless tents, that have recently appeared on our beaches, both north and south. (What ever happened to umbrellas?) People have now started leaving the tent frames on the beach overnight, while others kept getting "clothes-lined", when out for a stroll, so now we have rules that NO personal items can be left on the beach overnight. Well Duh!

Again, whatever happened to "BEACH" umbrellas, that you picked up with your chair, when retiring for the day, and took with you. No, now people want to stake out a "homestead" when they arrive at the beach, and expect to maintain it all week. If you want a spot, get your lazy butt up in the morning, and go set out your chairs, preferably in the same spot where you want to "dig your crater", but at the day's end, take your stuff off the beach, and fill your craters..............

As also mentioned before.........it's just common sense, and being considerate of others. There are many that love to enjoy the beach at night, without having to worry about breaking a leg, or running into an unforgiving obstacle.

Flashlight ? On the beach ?

I encourage all those who wish to safely enjoy the outdoors at night to invest in a new invention called the flashlight. :D

Hmmmm :hmmm: Now that sounds like a plan

Just kidding, but the beach to too pretty at night, to mess it up with a flashlight. Seeing is usually not a big problem next to the water, especially if there is just a bit of moon...

Again, I don't believe that MDing created the real issue here. We are talking about some seriously large holes, that are being left. Some are big enough to loose a small car in, or a large person..........:digginahole:(this is no exhaduration)

... Seeing is usually not a big problem next to the water, especially if there is just a bit of moon...

Correct . Just let your eyes adjust to the moon-light. Because if you try to use headlamps or flashlights, your eyes will become adjust to JUST that beam. And you'll grow blind to everything else around you.

....... I don't believe that MDing created the real issue here. We are talking about some seriously large holes, that are being left. ....

Of COURSE we can all agree that md'rs holes were not the aim of this law. It was College kids who dig super big bonfire holes, or whatever. But I bet if any of us went to those rule-makers and tried to get clarified "does that include us?", I bet that some genius would say "yes". And it would become the latest casualty of the "no one cared till you asked" scenario

Why

Ok... who brought this 2011 thread back up?

Well, probably because it just keeps happening, over and over and over again!

Now it's leading to a whole new set of rules & regulations, which of course, no one wants to see, but unfortunately, have been brought on by no one other than, ourselves. All of this only amounts to a wee bit of "plain old common sense". Unfortunately, there seems to be a lack of that, now-a-days ! People seem to object to rules & regulations, good or bad (?). What's up with that. If you're not doing anything wrong, so what's the problem ?

Please pardon me, as I am quite passionate about "our" country's coast, even though some view them as dumping grounds. Go there, have your fun, stick your cans and trash under the sand, dig humongous holes, stake out tents for your entire week's stay, and then, just leave. What the hell! The next high tide or storm will take care of things. Well sorry, but I call BS, on that theory.............

Of course it does because some are afraid to tell their hunting buddies how it should be done... I know a hunter I have told several times to fill his holes... I told him one of these days someone is going to break an ankle and his beach will have rules or worse...

I see the same thing on these video's for dirt hunters... they make these huge holes with their relic shovels... don't they know how to pinpoint? No wonder more and more parks and open land is becoming off limits to our fringe hobby.

Honestly....... how does this really afect us if we are filling our hole?

Some don't Dew.. I see guys up here hunting without a finds pouch... we know where the trash is going back to  they don't get it... another day they will redig the same garbage... maybe they will break an ankle falling into a hole dug by someone else:yes:

I don't understand why all of these people that go to the beach have to dig those big holes. Are they looking for treasure? There ain't no treasure, the metal detector guys got it all.

The Spring Breaker college punks do it here, they use them as "Sex Pits". You'll see holes 3 foot by 6 foot and deep as 3 feet all over the beach ABOVE the high tide line during spring break. I once saw one of the beach patrol cops stop and make two college age guys standing in a huge hole almost up to their chests :digginahole: fill the whole thing back in. Then he ticketed them for all their beer bottles on the beach! :dingding::heartylaugh::clapping:

I know Craig....... those are normally the ones complaining about local laws that seem to affect them more than us following the rules.

Im at Myrtle....... dang 6' waves so i thought id wait until low tide.........water came in and totally covered the beach. They dont want those holes because they dont have much beach IMO. Pretty narrow hunt......no if i can just get in the water with this weather. I did see 2 hunters......hope they got something, but i watched them a good while and they never dug a target. I found the only target line and there seemed to be just change and bottle caps in it. Oh well if it dont rain to much tomorrow maybe i can get wet.

Spring break 2014. Lots of big holes left on the beach. There were several five foot deep holes here with beach chairs abandoned at the bottom of them. Wonder what the breakers were doing down there.?

The MD found a couple of singles and even two full six packs of beer (Bud Lite) buried too

I too have dug up full six-packs on the beach. When I hit the first one with my scoop, I got squirted. I was a bit concerned, until I realized what it was - - go figure. Oh (Natural Lite) here !

So again, why would anyone think the beach patrol would be targeting us metal detectors, with such $%^# as this going on. They've got their hands full with all the crazies out there.

They pass me on their four wheelers all the time, usually with a friendly wave, and many times, they'll pull over and stop, just to ask if I've found anything "really" good. I hardly ever pass one of the life guard stands, that they don't ask the same. I'll usually have a friendly chat with them, and while talking, pull a quarter or dime from right from under them. Of course, in good fun, they always claim to have just dropped that, so I'll usually just flip it up to them, and I'm off on my way........:okay:

You did go just after I left ;) and I wish you better luck than I had. I seen Max's videos at VB and I guess the whole coast got weather. The day before I left the water was rough and opened some cuts, a good line of shells. Find some gold since I cleared out the junk and clad.
