Was just wondering if anyone, has used a Nel coil (Hunter, sharpshooter ect.) On the X terra series, What were your thoughts? Thanks for replies!

I use the sharpshooter. It is an awesome coil the separation its crazy. That being said the NEL coils did reverse engineer the technology in the xterra coils which isn't as legal as it could be but they are great coils

If they were not pirated technology, they wouldn't have to come with instructions for special button press sequence to force acceptance of their unauthorized use.

IMO, rewarding eastern European thieves is a mistake. If you stick with Minelab and Coiltek coils (the only authorized coils) your warranty remains intact and you will have the best quality equipment. Coiltek actually works with Minelab to produce coils....rather than working in opposition.

I'd like to try one, i hear they are nice. If coiltec made a similar shape i would be happy to buy an "authorized" coil, but until then...

I've personally never understood the point behind elliptical coils. They are depth limited by their width, and separation limited by their length.
In all honesty, I understand if it's a solid bottom coil that won't snag or hang up in brush, but the attraction to spoked elipticals to me is a mystery.

All I would like is a (Water proof, light wgt. DD) all around coil (7.5Khz). Don't really care what shape it is, as long is it's somewhere around 9 to 11"s. So I can cover some ground, without my arm falling off, if I swing more than 3hrs. I swing the xterra fairly slow, and after 3hrs, the 10.5DD gets really nose heavy. I can swing the 9"concentric, all day long! That's what I would like in a water proof DD! (Sorry Longhair, I knew you would be upset. I know your feelings on the Nel subject.) If MINELAB or COILTEK would man. a coil, with the same specs. as the Nel Hunter coil. I WOULD BE ALL OVER IT!

sharpshooter is the NEL you want. ;c

Correct me if I'm wrong. My understanding is that DD coils only goes as deep as they are wide, I would like one that goes more than 5.5" deep. That's why I was leaning towards the hunter coil.
Why the sharpshooter? I'm listening/reading all info given.
Thanks,

I'm not so sure about that. I haven't used one on xterra but it was my favorite on the omega and was only an inch less depth than the 11" DD.

The Hunter is good, too. it's just a little big and heavier for the depth and coverage gain. The sharpshooter is a pleasure to swing and still get good coverage and depth.

In field I recovered a dime sized rolled gold ring at 7" true measure depth with the sharpshooter on the omega. that was at the very fringe but still great depth for that coil and small object.

I havent used it yet, but by this youtube vid, the coiltek digger goes deeper than 6" in the airtest. Feel free to check it out. Once mine arrives, I'll let you know what my results are with it. In this video it air tests at about 9". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JNuG20vaqt4

Thanks! I do plan on get the digger coil in the future, but right now I'm after something for (open/non trashy areas) that's some what light to swing for more then 3hrs. DD&waterproof.
Good luck, with your new coil I know it's a killer! I'll be looking for your future post...

The hunter may be a good option then. it's a good coil but it's not any lighter than the 10.5dd on the xterra. At least in feel anyway.

Good to know, Nobody post the wgts. of the coils, in the for sales specs. Maybe if I contact coiltek they'll make what I need? Until then, I guess I could rig something up like (Roadkill Jim):laughing::laughing:

the hunter is a couple oz more than 10.5" but center mount so feel is probably the same. sharpshooter is about 1/3 lb lighter than 10.5" with center mount and would feel more like 1/2 lb lighter

In the Ground (I don't care for air test) how deep could you hit a quarter, with the sharpshooter. If they center mounted the 10.5DD it would probably be better balanced.

on an omega 8" max on g2 7" max. my 10" didnt beep for either. then again the 10" barely ticked with the 11" dd. Note, the 705 10.5mf had no problem hitting the 10" quarter with a little room to spare. much better in my soil. I would guess 8" on x-terra with the 7.5khz.

Longhair i never had to do a button sequence in order for it to work with the detector nor was i aware of it

Their coils all now ship with this message in the package with them.
Though, it would be more correct of them to say "....to let your Xterra know that it has an unauthorized coil fitted", as this procedure isn't required with a proper coil.

Don't like the sound of that; so that said, would it foul up the xterra's program? What happens when you, go back to a reg. manufactured coil?
