Need some advice

Mike I think your are thinking about the Sand Shark which is Tesoro's PI machine. The Tiger is their VLF disc. Model.. I did think on the PI but it just seemed like over kill for redneck waters likely littered worse then the land with lost beer items ;)

I like my cutlass alot and had considered moving up the totem pole of Tesoros machine to a cibola or Vaq., but seems that the Tiger could accomplish that and give me the sought after water ability too.

Still torn.

Am I right on the Tiger having to be opened up to ajust settings?

The Tiger Shark controls are right on the face plate

If you are serious about water hunting in freshwater go with the Tiger Shark. If you are on the fence about it or just dabble in water hunting/weekend warrior then you might consider the AT Pro instead. Only a few of the controls are on the interior of the Tiger Shark; the volume, threshold and sensitivity. Once those are set, it is not recommended messing with them unless you know what you are doing, at least with the sensitivity anyway. The volume is easily adjusted inside, threshold can be set and stay where you put it. The sensitivity can be thrown out of wack easy but if you absolutely have to adjust it, set it to chatter then back it off slightly til it's quiet. Those three interior controls rarely need any adjusting at all if any so don't let that scare you off.

Couldn't agree with you more on the Wader. I have one and it performs great here in our California beaches.

Rudy I had considered that to be my first choice due to Detector Pros reasonable pricing on their Headhunter series machines. But oh my God the reviews were a thing or horror to put it plainly. And having no first hand exp. with them. I figured the Tiger would be the safer choice. Then the Garrett showed up for sale and yeah well here we are lol

Those reviews are outdated all the issues with the Detector Pro series were taken care of....

The headphone wires were all replaced with stronger thicker wiring...

Cf I appreciate all your help on this.

It would have been nice to know that info on the Headhunter before a Wader slipped by for $285.

Thank you everyone for your help and advice.

And yes my intent for this purchase is water, it being able to hunt land would be a perk. I do get to dirt hunt more then water. But have a great amount of water in my area and the F75 handles any and all dirt hunting I need. What it doesn't the cutlass can handle. Like around rebar sidewalks and bleachers.

Headhunters come on the market all the time. If you want to read some usefull reviews on them I can advise you to go to the findmall treasure forums ad there is a section dedicated to the detector pro machines. I can tell you that 98% of the reviews are great. Anyway you can get a brand new pirate pro, that is basically a wader, for less tan $400. Main difference is that it doesn't have the interchangeable coils and that it is not waterproof, just splash proof, but considering that the unit is on your head who cares if it is just slash proof??? Unless you don't swim.

I think if you plan on doing this for a long while you should get the Tiger. Just can't beat having a lifetime warranty. I have an old Stingray that is a wonderful machine, old as heck but Tesoro still fixes it if I have an issue. I have to admit I've never used the AT Pro at all but if it has them belltones it would drive me batty lol. The Target ID isn't that important on a water detector, just not readable a lot of the time. I guess for me if I was going with a straight water detector it would be the Tiger, if you want one that you can use on both land and water I'd probably do the AT.

Lakota, as Craig said, they originally had a problem with the cross over wire. They've been fixed, mine included.
