My FIRST!!

SCORE!! Don't you just love how a silver coin comes out of the ground still shiny? Give any clad dime just a few years in the dirt, and it won't have any silvery shine left at all. Congrats on the awesome dig!

The first is always a big deal. A memory that will stay with you forever. Congrats on the Merc. Hope there is a lot more in your future. Trapper

That is great

Congrats and you found it at home how awesome. Sounds like you better hunt it some more

First silver is huge! Congrats! It's a special one :)

My house was built just after 1900, but I didn't start detecting until just after selling it. Dang it! [emoji1]

Wow congrats on that silver right off the bat in your own yard. Now you can hit it hard anytime you want to.

Nice job uncovering such a great find! :clapping: I think finding something nice like that from your own yard can make it even more memorable... that's how I found my first wheat cent.

I work from home, got tired of looking at the walls. I went outside in my front yard right up against the walk way to the porch, Garrett AT
signaled 81-82. My house was built in 1925. I found my very first
MERCURY DIME!!! 1926
Might not seem like a big deal to me it was amazing!
My very first silver!

That IS amazing. You'll never forget the first. well done, and AWESOME find. I'm still chasing a Mercury. never found one. I've nailed a Walking Liberty Half, and a Morgan Dollar, but never a Mercury Dime. :( I'm jealous!

Well done, and congrats on the awesome find!! :)

Congrats. It took me a year to find my first silver dime and a year to find my second. But been finding them steadily ever since. A few days ago I found a ‘37 quarter, ring, chain and pendant all in about 50 feet of a curb strip.

My first silver coin was in my own yard as well. The previous owner planted a tree but it died. I removed it and while detecting later I found it in the dirt from the dug up stump. It was a Rosie dime, still haven’t found a merc but since then I found an 1876 seated dime love token and a 1932 Washington quarter both on my property. Not as many as I’d like but every silver is a gem in my eyes.

Congratulations on your first silver coin. It is a BIG deal. I hunted for several months before I found my first 2 silvers , a 1951 and a 1964 Roosevelt dime. I found them both the same day in the same yard within minutes of one another. Then the obsession for more really kicked in. For me, the sight of a silver coin in the dirt is like an addictive drug. I do it for the rush. Unless I find something that can propel me to immediate retirement, the actual monetary value is of really no concern.

That’s why my wife don’t care when I find silver, she says it’s not like she’ll ever see any money from it lol. I’ve only sold 1 ring but that was for bills. I still miss it lol

Very big deal

That is so AWESOME. My first silver was a 1964 dime. It took me about a year of md'ing to find it. My second silver was laying in the bottom of a hold after I pulled the plug, lying there was a Mercury dime. I couldn't believe my eyes. A shinny mercury dime, lying there all these years, and I found it. It amazes me, how finding such a tiny little object, such as a dime, can still be so thrilling. To me, finding a silver coin is a VERY BIG DEAL. Another BIG deal is to get permission to hunt a house built in 1925. My house was built in 1988. I'll bet there are a few more goodies in your yard, and your neighbor's house too, if they let you hunt it.
My guess is, you got the fever and are hooked now!!!
HH everyone

Congrats! That's a big first. Now get ready for a tidal wave of them lol. Keep up the good work!

Congratz on your first merc. And since you're from an east coast state, barbers won't be far behind. Then within a few months, it'll be seateds. Then busts. Within a year, LC's and colonial coppers. Then cobs, etc.... Pretty soon, any cob or gold coin newer than 1750 will bore you to tears !

guess I took the weird route...first good coin was a merc and indian(before I ever found clad dime) in the same hole, then was on to an 1802 one duit. Then a 1680 1/2 maravedis.(thanks long island buddy) Then a seated dime (cc mint even tom), then a seated half in a spill with 5 largies, then came the other stuff like barbers, rest of the seated varities, trimes and so on. Still have not found a walking liberty, or a dollar coin outside of a clad dollar coin. Still no gold minus one ring a lady told me where it was lost 6 years ago. still no 1700's coins or capped anything. Might have flipped a few of those on timing but it gives you the idea of the odd route I have taken

Yes, you cheated. You didn't "pay your dues". So please kindly go out and dig 5000 clad coins, assorted tabs, foil, etc..... And THEN you can graduate up to the old coins, in-the-right-order. After all, it's not fair that you skipped md'ing grade school classes, after all

don't worry tom, I soon after made up for me dues by devoting most of my detecting time to cellars....where I have dug enough nails and trash and far less coins to get my metal detecting grade school, high school, and undergraduate degrees.
