My First Silver Coin

I don't know what else I can do to prove I dug this coin short of a video of every hole. I would never question someone's find. Can everyone on this forum prove every find. I am having the coin checked on Friday at Delaware Valley Rare Coin Company anyone who wants to come along all are welcome. Dave

I believe you. Keep posting, and let us know what they say. HH

I saw the original post header and didn't have time to look then. Later I noticed there are 4 pages of posts now. I thought, what the heck did this guy find? Saw the pics and just about blew my coffee I was drinking out through my nose. Just read through the 4 pages and I can see why some were skeptical at first. Just too amazing to believe. Then when you posted the better shots...WOW DREEVES!! What a find. I know that I will search for the rest of my days and maybe find something half that nice if I'm really, really lucky. WTG

Congrats on an awesome find. You don't need to prove anything to anyone. All that matters is YOU found a super (rare) find. Quite honestly, I never even knew what one looked like. Again congrats to you and I hope you find four more in a pocket spill. Go dig, dig, dig....

As another Chester Co. hoodlum, I'm just really stoked that something like that can be found around here. Congrats again and I wish you all the best with regard to your first silver...:yes::yes: With something like that, I would not take just any coin dealers word. Just my 2 zincolns..

There are two older fellows in Morgantown (Plaza?), that I hear always shoot straight. They may try and buy it from you, as they have a very extensive collection, but they will tell you the truth about its worth. GL & HH

BTW: You should document the find and send it into Garrett's find of the month. If you so choose. Again, Congratulations..

What an outstanding find of a life time. I didn't know what it's worth was after reading three pages of posts. I'm excited for you and quite taken back by the naysayers. I don't get it. Don't let them take your smoke. Congratulations.

I too didn't look at this thread until I saw all the post count. I am very happy for you! That coin is nice! I, like you would not have known the scarcity of that coin or the value. Sometimes it takes a while for the real ....holy cow! reaction to set in. :)

Congrats on the coolest coin I have seen posted.

DReeves,

First off congrats on your find. I too would have had no clue what that coin was or worth if I had found it and would have had to research it to find out when I got home. I am fairly new to the hobby and there is a steep learning curve on finds and I'm still learning. Although I haven't experienced such questions on any of my finds, of course I haven't found anything that nice yet either, when I post there is usually some good positive congrats and some good info on identification when I do. I have to say this thread has me quite befuddled with some of its reactions. I know I use this forum for information, the aid of experienced people, and to share my hobby with others with similar interests. FMDF usually picks me up when I can't get out hunting because of the weather or whatever, and keeps me motivated to keep going when I'm in a slump. Don't let all the negativity get you down, the only person you have to prove anything to is yourself.

I hunt because every signal makes me feel like a kid again, excited to dig in the dirt to see what I have found, if I were to find something that nice it would just be a huge bonus and get me that e-trac I've been drooling over. Almost everyday I read on this forum about the "zenlike" quality of metal detecting and it's not about what you find but the ability to just get out and get some exercise in some good weather and enjoy the company of "friends", maybe that is just not the case for everyone who metal detects, not sure. I for one am happy for you, I'm happy for anyone that has a good day hunting and makes some great finds, again congrats and I hope you find 10 more on your next hunt!:D

Again, I am no longer a naysayer. I think part of the doubt was the nonchalont posting. Most others would have written a 10 page thread with exclamation points everywhere. After seeing the better pics, I am a believer. Also the low post count probably played a factor too. Dave, you just have to understand there are many people who have posted 1-3 times with an unreal find to never be heard from again. The world is full of skeptics. It would have happened on any forum. Please let us know how things go tomorrow. I am looking forward to seeing an answer...

First, congrats Dave. Super, untopable, once in a lifetime find. WTG!!! Second, I too would have posted the way you did. It really was a catch-22 situation. Some don't believe because you took a low-key approach, well I believe that others would have been even more doubtful had you had a 4 piece band blowing a fanfare when you announced it. Good on you and I hope you find more at some point.

maybe dig another one.. or something better. Are you planning on posting the value on this thread? I would like to know how much something like that is worth.

its absolutely amazing.

I didn't believe the first photo, it seemed to weird, someone else posted the same coin the same day. I thought it was seated to make a person think they found the world.

But after seeing the other pict It looks much more real.

I will try to get a picture with a modern dime tonight. I will let you know what they think it's worth when I get the info.

Amazing find!

Why does it always seem like the poeple who have hardly any posts are the ones finding coins nobody else will ever find. They made 22,135 of this coin. Just from these pics, it looks like this coin might be around EF40 or an $11k coin. If this is real and you truly found a 215 year old coin that has no tarnish on it at all and looks like it did the day it was minted, then sorry for my skepticism and congrats...

Like the guy that found a gold coin around the railroad tracks, and a member here found that same picture on ebay.
