I headed up to Missoula yesterday and today, and got into two good yards, one each day. The first home was built in 1921, with decent sized front yard. Very nice lady said to detect the whole yard, so I did scan the backyard too. Not too many coins but the yard started out well with a choice 1903 Indian Head Cent. Followed that up with a 1917 wheat cent and 1920 wheat cent. Also turned up a .925 Sterling "LIVE LAUGH LOVE" ring. The last good coin was a 1916-S Barber Dime, so very happy with that!

Today I got permission at a beautiful large corner lot, built in the 1930s. Lots of coins in this yard... started out with a couple of wheat cents, then a small Sterling ring, then a Merc Dime, then 1941 Washington Silver Quarter, then Merc Dime, and then Silver War Nickel, with wheat cents mixed in. All on one side of the front yard. The very nice man came out and saw how carefully I restored the lawn after removing a coin, and gave me the OK for the whole yard. A Silver Rosie came out of the side yard, and near the house in the backyard I got a nice smooth 92-95 signal on my AT Pro. About 7" down out came a beautiful 1921 Morgan Silver Dollar! Wow... very happy with how this hunt was turning out! That was about it for good coins, I ended up with 19 wheat cents from this yard. Also found a neat "BIGGEST LITTLE CITY IN THE WORLD / RENO NEVADA" large copper medallion, a Pizza token, and what looks like part of a Silver Bracelet. One target rang up like a large copper memorial, and out popped a string of copper memorial cents that had been welded together near edge to edge! Have never found anything like that before! I have not shown all the clad quarters, dimes and copper cents. Very happy with my finds, my 2nd Silver Dollar in the last three hunts here in Montana, thank you for your interest!

Another great play-by-play and photo lineup.

Question : How many silver dollars do you have for your md'ing career so far ? Because Montana & Idaho seem to have the higher percentage of silver dollars to be found.

Pretty epic once again David....and I thought you said Missoula was hunted out...2 years ago! 🤣 Seriously, very impressive! Glad you got an oldie Barber. Throw those modern silvers back so they can grow up some 😉. Good to see you still pulling good stuff.

Thank you Tom! I detected from 1980-83 in Bellingham WA area, no silver dollars. This is my 7th year with AT Pro detecting in Montana, today was my 11th Montana found Silver Dollar.

Thanks Paul! Am soooooooooooo glad I have the Sanborn Maps for Missoula, only way I can keep track of what I've done in the last 7 years. This corner lot was not checked off and proved really good.
Man, that’s one heck of a great haul! Nice write up too!
Thank you Rattlehead!

Wow, it seems everyone in Montana carried a silver dollar around.

Steve
Thanks Steve! Yes, from what I'm told, silver dollars were still in circulation here in Montana into the early 1960s.
You’re killing it! Keep up the good work 👍🏻
Thank you HungryGhost! Am heading back to Missoula today with a couple permissions in hand, hope to do well.
Cripes you find a ton of silver!!! How many dollars have you dug now!? Great finds man!
Thank you TundraPlugger! Yesterday was my 11th Montana found Silver Dollar, 7 years detecting here.
Ok, I'm moving to Montana!
Hah! I bet you would get your Silver Dollar here! All the guys that I regularly detect with have found silver dollars here. A fun find that never gets old!

Congrats on all the silver! What's your lifetime silver total so far? Also I'm curious of the average depth of the silver where you dig? Where I live it tends to be very deep.

A corner yard back then usually meant heavier than usual foot traffic due many taking a short cut around the corner. I am sure you knew that. Beautiful 1921 Morgan. Still can see some feathers on the mighty eagles breast. Just clean with water soft cloth or soft tooth brush will be perfect. Congrats on two very good hunts. I think going forward detectorists who are better at getting permissions will do better that those of us who are reluctant to have developed a good permissions plans. As everyone says, location, location, location. But this is proof of that saying.

Thank you maxxkatt! I agree with you, private permissions are kind of the "last frontier" around here, and even then there is getting to be competition in that arena too. And yep, will clean that Morgan carefully under running water w/ soft toothbrush, should come out nice!

Thank you longbow62! So far, I am into my 7th year detecting here in Montana. Approx 1,300 silver coins so far found with my AT Pro. Thankfully I live in a semi-arid climate with not a ton of rain, organic buildup or soft soil, so most of the silvers are 6" or less. Some of the towns I detect in North Central Montana have even less rain and the silvers there tend to be 4" deep or less.
