Now that I've gotten in a little practice with the new detector, I went back to one of my favorite spots that has produced a number of coins, including the 1864 Indian Head. On my previous trips (with the old Garret) I had pretty much come up dry...no new coins found. Well, on this trip I found 6 pennies and one quarter...all modern (70s, 80s, and 90s)...but it was nice to know that there were still some coins buried on the property, even though I had been over the area at least 5 or 6 times. Then I came upon these two nice finds. I cannot get a date off of the Buffalo, it's seems to be completely worn off, despite the rest of the coin being in far better shape than the 1913 I found at this location last Fall. Regardless, I was pretty happy. There are still a few areas at this site overall that I really haven't put much effort into detecting, but that's about the change.

The one thing that is common when getting a new detector is you make more finds at old sites you have hunted. I know this is true as it happened when I got the E-Trac. Other than the fact it is a better machine is probably why. Fly you have just begun to see the finds the new unit will find for you. You are soooo doomed! :rofl2:

Nice finds! How deep were your recoveries?
Both of the nickels were probably 4(ish) inches down. I think the Buffalo might have been on its side. I got a reasonably good tone, hitting right on a 12...dug the hole and then pretty much lost the signal. Searched with my pin-pointer and had no luck. Filled the hole, put back the grass and started to move on. But the initial good tone was still bugging me, so I ran the detector over the spot again and once more got a solid 12. Pulled out the plug and there it was. Always recheck your holes...so to speak.

Thanks for that info!
