Minelab Manticore Aluminum Bottle Screw Cap Rejection

Jeff, you are mistaken about the Manticore soft key buttons.

It actually has 2 assignable soft-keys on the front (and a 3rd one on the side). You can assign those soft-keys directly to frequency and very easily and rapidly change from SMF to any SF in less than a second.

In terms of actual time measured, the Manticore can switch frequencies a bit faster than the Deus 2, and the initial set up to configure the soft keys takes less time than creating an identical duplicate program but in SF on the Deus 2.

I honestly believe the soft keys make the Manticore the most readily configurable A/B testing detector there is. It may be my favorite thing about the detector. The Deus 2 paradigm of having to setup multiple adjacent programs is significantly more time consuming than globally assignable soft keys.

With the Legend, 1 button quickly toggles through the SMF and SF modes. However, there is a quicker way to switch on the Legend to try this method. That is, choose the frequency I want in Park and Field mode, then with one quick button press, I can switch from Park Mode to Field mode.

I think you are going to like the feature a lot more that you can change the front buttons too. I honestly find the 3rd one on the side sort of cumbersome to use as well, and mostly only use the front two.

My personal favorite uses of the feature are the one-button sensitivity boost and the ability to toggle to depth-audio / pitch theme and back to full tones rapidly.

I just did a little more thorough testing with my Legend, and the renowned bottle cap :)

I set up Park and Field mode almost identically. The only difference was that I was using M3 in Park mode, and 40 khz in Field mode.

The bottle cap gave a very solid 46 in Park mode. One quick and easy button push, and I was in Field mode at 40 khz. The bottle cap now gave a 48/49, and sometimes hit 50. I then confirmed that a copper penny and silver dime, do not change ID's when doing the switch.

I can't wait to try this in the wild, but as it looks now, this could very well be an excellent method to identify uncrushed aluminum screw on caps, provided that they are not very shallow, or very deep.

It would be interesting to see how much of an ID change occurs on the D2 when checking the cap in Mono at about 40 khz.
