its been a while since i have posted anything but i am i need of some advice.
im looking to get a new detector and right now my budget is $700, i now i want a minelab detector. now the problem is there are to many options for me to go through without haveing any experince with this brand of detector first hand. i have looked at safaris and explores and quatros. to give you a little back ground on what i have been working with i have been using an ace 250 with a sniper coil and the stock coil. i have been using it for almost 2 years and have gotten pretty good with it but i feel that my potential is getting limited with using it only i have pulled out $300 to $400 of clad and a few old coins. so now that i have given you all some good background on my experince and what i have been working with, i know there is alot of minelab users that have much more experince then i do so if you guys and girls can give me some help it would be very much appreciated on the subject. i am looking for a setup that has alot of options with it aswell

If you ever plan to hunt gold, the X-Terra 705 Gold Pack can be had for around $700....decent coin machine as well!!!

I think the Safari replaced the Quatros so unless you are looking for a used machine. New in the $700.00 range is the X-Terra 705 as dusty pointed out. Just PM, E-mail or phone several different dealers for prices. Once you have prices you can then go from there on which Minelab detector best suits your needs, some dealers are helpful as well if they are avid detectorist.

used would be great if i could find a good used detector. i also have almost $2000 dollars worth of basketball cards i am gonna be selling and if i sell these soon then im gonna buy an etrac.

The xterra line is absolutely great, I recently upgraded to an etrac but used an xterra 70 for about a year and a half, I found 110 silver in 2009 with it, 400+ wheats, it is a good machine.

Really depends on what you are detecting for. I'm a coin/button/buckle type of guy. I like fields, and cellar holes. The best way I personally could spend $700 would be on a quality used Explorer 2 with a Sunray X-1 probe. But that's me.

Check the sponsors, like above and NED, talk to andrew or justin. There name on here is minelabdealer.. check them and of course other sponsors. They can also help you a lot. Jimmy has a great idea, but if you may want to wait until you have the money to get what you really want.. don't want to regret spending 700.. sell some more cards.. I can't wait to sell my motorcyle... I at least have a change now that the snow is gone..

Buy used and let someone else take the depreciation hit.Are you wanting a turn on and go with minor setup or do you want moderate setup before md'ing? Also take in consideration the weight of the machine if you plan to hunt alot. The Xterra line is very lightweight and the 505 and 705 are very flexible in that just by changing coils you can hunt in 3 different frequencies depending on your environment.$700 will buy you a nice MD then if you are still hungry ,spend the big $$$$ on the Minelab Etrac or the Whites V3i.

You remind me of myself a few years ago as my budget was also $700 back then. So I bought the XT-70, except it wasn't long before I realized that I needed a bigger coil for more depth and a smaller coil for the trashier sites. So instead of spending $700, I ended up spending over $1100 because by then my V4 pinpointer had died and as a result ended up buying a Pro-pointer too. So be prepared, if you buy the XT-705. Now wish I had just waited one more year and went out and bought an Etrac (or whatever) instead, not that the XT-70 (705) isn't a decent detector...

wow guys thanks for the advice like i said before used in good condition would be the way to go for me i like the explorer series detectors and everything it just seems like theres not that many used ones on the market right now and i would love to get rid of my cards cause that would give me alot more room to play with. but if anyone has a spare explorer or etrac the wanna sell let me know. until then i will continue my search for a good used detector

thanks

Buy used, i usually always do. You can get a better machine like a mint Explorer SE for about 700 and use it until you get enough for an E-trac. Another good thing about buying used it rarely will you lose any money reselling them and if you do it is not much. So if you are set on Minelab my suggestion would be to find a used but nice Explorer SE.

E-tract can locate valuable metal objects in a variety of mineralised ground conditions such as extremely salty soils, seawater, wet beach sand and highly magnetic ground conditions. By using the E-TRAC you can become one of the many successful detectorists who combine their passion for the outdoors with the excitement of discovering valuable coins, relics, gold and jewellery on a regular basis.
