Meteorite hunters in N.C.

past meteors spotted

A couple of years ago, coming back to Charlotte from Fayetteville, NC, my Rozeann and I spotted a couple of very near and very bright, green meteors traveling East to West along the road.

We reported these to the American Meteor Society at http://www.amsmeteors.org/ - reports 197 -198 for May 14 2008. We would have loved to have gone hunting for these but we had no detector at that time or even an idea how to start, given the terrain of planted fields and woods along their flight. I am sure they landed within a couple of miles of where we spotted them, they were very low to the earth.

magnets

Huntersart, you can pick up rare earth magnets at a Woodcraft or Woodworkers store, where they usually have them from a quarter coin size down to a 3mm round. They come in packs of 5-10, depending on size and are somewhat brittle, so don't let the big ones 'slam' together, they can break.

I have a large on glued to the top of the handle of my homemade probe, where it is very handy.

I have been looking for any meteorite enthusiests on the east coast. I mostly work in PA, MD, WV, and VA. PM me if you are interested in meteorite hunting. I may get a few chances for roadtrips during the summer and spring break.

Lastly, the cost of living is low and North Carolina mountain property is fairly cheap at the moment. It certainly is a buyer's market in this day and age and anyone that has money to invest in property would be wise to do so now as the prices are low. Find a local realtor to help you find the land of your dreams in the mountains of North Carolina. Use one that has a good track record and will deliver property that meets your needs at an affordable price. log cabin builders nc

Secondly, living in the mountains means that you will find non-stop things to do.

I'm still looking for a partner to hunt with me in the Fayetteville area, feel free to E-Mail me at [email protected] or PM me here for a phone number. I am available anytime, and I have a White's MXT, and extra magnet canes.

Tell me about it! Neodymium magnets can be purchased through www.nuggetshooter.com as well as some Kellyco detectors. I am interested in relic hunting in the Fayetteville area as well, but it seems that there aren't too many folks interested in swinging a coil on the weekends. I wouldn't mind hunting gold, relics, or coin shooting, and as far as meteorites are concerned, if you're hunting relics anyway most meteorites show up as an iron signal which I would dig regardless.
