@ Hubbit I appreciate your kind words on all of this and I am still always looking for a good hunt. I have learned a lot about this area since you and I talked when I moved here back in March. I have hunted from the AZ/CA line back through Big Bear across to SGR, over to Huntington Beach and back. And where we moved to this is my view every morning at 6am while I’m drinking my coffee.

@ Rudy Thank you for pointing out the site Lostmystuff. After looking at this site I am currently making some changes to Lostrecoveryteam.com

I know there are sites out there that are along the same lines as what I wanted to do but not too many that are organized and current. I did come across a site called Theringfinder. His site charges to be a member and charges almost double what I wanted to charge if you look at the coverage areas verses the fee to sign up.

Now after all that has been said back and forth here I am going to change my site to be free to join. I still feel like I have to justify why I wanted to charge a membership fee.

Yes there are a few groups out there that offer a lost and recovery service. If anyone read any of my post in this thread entirely there is one part that some people did not pick up on. The part where I said I had 6 people reply back to me about the ring I listed on craigslist that I have found, none of these 6 people were not the owners of this ring.

I live in Southern Cali. There seem to be more people here with metal detectors then any place I can thank of. Why have these 6 people from one single post have not contacted someone to help them find their rings? Maybe they have and maybe that haven’t but one of these 6 offered to pay me to go help find it.

Now the cost to own a site like this and my thoughts on getting it promoted

“WITH OUT SPAM MAILING PEOPLE”.

Hosting $15.00 a month

Placing ads on Google, $10.00 a day x 30 days = $300 a month. Now that’s only for an average of 20 clicks a day (which is nothing). The average cost per click is $.50 for these key words.

I am not going to count my time for building a site like this. There are over 70 pages now and will be 5x’s that before it is done. If you don’t know how much it cost to have someone build a website then look around the cost for a standard 5-7 page website can cost anywhere from a couple hundred to a few thousand.

So with what is listed above we are at $315.00 a month X’s 12 = $3,780.00. How many members would it take to cover the cost for a year at $30.00 a sign up for a year?

So WOOOOWEEEEEE I am going to be able to retire from this great idea…..

I have currently 2 members that have PAID to join I am refunding there payment and going completely FREE. It will take a couple dys to make these changes.

Nowhere is it said that you have to charge someone to help them find their lost item as a member of The Lost Recovery Team. That is entirely up to each member of The Lost Recovery Team. That is one the great things about our directory we leave it entirely up to each individual. They have the right on the site to charge if they choose to or not charge if they choose to. And then you say...

Thanks for replying, its all good. Since I added a few things to my site it will be better that way then to charge a membership fee.

So some reply's to my site idea that were meant to be negative ended up showing me that my glass is more than half full.

Recently I have been finding some great areas that have been hidden or unseen to anyone passing by. On the last couple hunts I have found a couple of coins that are 150 to 200 years old from a couple of the areas I uncovered. So I thought I would make a website and see if I could help others find hidden areas in their city or town and maybe make a couple dollars as well.

Read through the site, but you don't exactly give a lot of details as to what the report will consist of. I mean I can use google earth and find some area in town and say 'you haven't dug here'. What does your report offer exactly? I by no means am saying this is not a good idea. Just trying to help ya out, as an outsider looking in I would need more info. Prices would also be good to have listed. If they are, I couldn't find them.
