Made up my mind

There does come a point at which we all do what we want and do it with what we like. There’s really no right or wrong. If the results you’re obtaining for the effort being put forth are satisfactory, machine selection matters not. The variables with EMI, soil condition, targets sought, etc. are SO great that it’s absurd. Furthermore, ones own comfort running a particular machine both mentally and physically are important. One machine isn’t better than another if the user can’t get the hang of it, or it just doesn’t appeal to them for whatever reason.
As long as we are satisfied with what we’re using and the results being seen, it’s a wrap. A lot of attention and emphasis is placed on “performance” but the human element may be the deciding factor here...

You know a lot of people including myself can't fathom using a single frequency detector when other detectors that can use multiple frequencies either simultaneously or one at a time are available. If a person is a door knocker and only hunts a yard maybe that one time and moves on never to hit it again as someone else mentioned then just about any detector will probably do. An ATpro is a good detector that has definitely proved it can find all types of targets. Still I would love to hunt behind one with my Nox 800 and see just what the person has missed. I myself can't be handicapped by a detector that I know is leaving good targets behind because it could not detect them. This is especially true of the sites that get hammered or have been hammered in the past. I have probably found at least one-third of my silver in spots previously hunted by someone.

For instance this house has been torn down. It had a tiny front yard. It had been hit when I found it as many plugs had been dug and there was even metal trash laying on the front walk. I hammered it several times with a Nokta Impact in 14Khz when the ground was saturated and when it was dry. I used both the stock coil and the small elliptical. During the many times I hit this tiny front yard I found lots of shallow coins. I found one Merc where the small red circle is by the small pecan tree, and a few Wheats decently deep with the stock coil of the Impact scattered thru out the yard. Every square inch of this yard had been hit in multiple directions. Sadly I had spent probably 6-8 hours total searching that tiny front yard because of lack of places to hunt. I really don't like door knocking.

So a couple of weeks ago I hit it again, but for the first time with my Equinox 800 with the stock coil. My buddy hit the left side of walk and I hit the right. I started getting deep faint hits right off the bat. I dug three deep Wheats, and a Barber and Merc in the larger area circled in red. The Barber and one Wheat were in the same hole deep. The Merc and other Wheats were all within a small area and all very deep. The Merc was as deep as my pin-pointer is long. So this is just a recent example of me going back over ground I had never hit with the Nox and finding I had missed a considerable amount that another detector could just not sound off on.

Yes, +1. I am wondering how to make a sling for my ATPRO so I can carry it slung across my back to see if it will hit what the NOX does.

I snuck out last evening to the school/park behind my house for s short hunt. Dug five more nickels, 13's but dug alot of other stuff that registered 13. Bits of can slaw and the metal tubes that hold erasers on pencils were most frequent but sometimes a square tab would 13 me too.
This NOX is a beast but the compressed VDI is a design flaw and mistake. Copper pennies and dimes both ring up 25? For real? What were they thinking? If anything they should have gone to a 150 scale to give finer resolution along with the multifreq tech. Oh well, it is what it is and I will handle it.

With the Nox ID each number is probably taking in a spread of 2.5 numbers on the AT Pro non ferrous scale, so say your at 75% detecting depth on the Pro and a Nickel is bouncing 10 numbers either side of ID 52 on the Pro, would this take in lots of other unwanted targets, the same as the Nox jumping 11-12-13?

No.The at pro is strong on low conductors, and it don't jump around like that at depth, not in my soil and definatly not on nickels..Nickel ID even with the 5x8 is pretty much spot on until the edge of detection

I haven’t taken my ATPro out of the bag since I bought my Nox. I used the ATPro for about 2 months before moving to a Nox. I took to the Nox immediately. The Nox has a lot of room to grow with. I am going to be changing up settings and trying new things with it. Something you can’t really do with the ATP.

Glad to hear you found a machine you click with.Thats the best thing we have going, so many choices and new things rolling out all the time .

Cant say as I remember the ATPRO jumping around much if any on nickels but I am for sure no expert. I think it is quite likely the NOX is telling me more than I understand too.
I went out to a different park that I had scored a bunch of clad at with the ATPRO to see if I could pull coins out of the same areas with the NOX. A short hunt, not much ground covered. I did pull more clad out of the same area I had hunted with the ATPRO---- which really doesn't mean much since I hardly know what I'm doing anyways I guess. :D
I dug a gold plated ring--heavy plate but somehow abraded off on spots. Has makers marks on the inside, not sure what the base metal is.

Thought this was a quarter but it did ring up a little higher. Stones are not real but it's marked 925.

So all told, a couple rings and some clad out of the same spot I hit with the ATPRO more than once.

I am getting pretty excited about this machine. It's all good, whatever folks are comfortable with is never a bad choice.

I don't like 50 tones , I like 5 tones. 3 tones...Idk?

I liked 50 tones, but I also like 3 tones. The At pro has 3 tones as well. I almost didn't pull the trigger on the simplex due to only having 3 tones. But once you start using it, those 3 tones say quite a bit about the target your picking up. I decided to sell my Garrett, I was witnessing new technology walk all over my Garrett in the field, and I lost my passion for the machine. It was a really sad day when a friend popped out a 3 cent piece and my garrett wouldn't even touch it right on the surface... Not sure what was going on that day, whether it was the machine or coil, but my AT gold would NOT see that 3 center, except for when I switched to all metal mode. Also a friend found a half dime at about 8" at a cellar hole, garrett wouldnt make a peep on that target either. New technology nailed it. Call it what you want, depth, recovery speed, coil choice, etc... But In the 8-9 years ive been detecting, I never had that issue. Its clear, technology is getting better, and this is a prime example, now I have a machine that's half the cost, and does MORE! Lighter, faster, wireless, Bluetooth, waterproof, etc... Someone asked recently "why buy a single frequency detector"? Well cause not only are multifrequency machines getting better, single frequency machines are too. It should be exciting to see what the U.S. companies will counter with in 2020, because IMO, the best metal detectors on the market currently, are NOT made in the U.S..... but when its all said and done, use what machine makes you get the most enjoyment out of the hobby, sometimes it seems like there's a contest going on, just enjoy yourself and have fun, its just a hobby. Ok Im done, I feel better now

My Ace 250 has 3 tones but a simplex has faster recovery speed maybe depth too Idk.
I would buy a simplex if I was starting out.
I would also buy a Vanquish.
I am sorry Garrett is falling behind.

Yea me too, ill bet they are losing alot of customers nowadays. On a good note, I heard they have something planned for 2020 (who knows how true it is) so we will see if they have an answer. Love their products, just need to make some modern changes. In the meantime, I'm still keeping my baby :cool3:

Once I got my AT Pro I never had a reason to get anything else. It finds stuff and I’m happy with it! I’m sure nox users could say the same. Either way at pro or equinox I think you’ll have a great machine!

You know as long as your happy with what you got it is all good.
Just for grins I went to a curbstrip today I have detected a couple times with the ATPRO to see if the NOX800 could find anything there. We are expecting guests so just spent a few minutes hunting while waiting for them to arrive.
Boom! 1919 merc pops out a few minutes into the hunt. Right next to the curb.

Pulled all this glad out and a silver dime from a spot I went over carefully with the ATPRO. And I left stuff there--targets I passed as I didn't have time to dig it all mostly zinc and copper penny signals.

In my case this might not mean the NOX is better because I'm a newb but I see the same trend everywhere I've been with the ATP and go back over with the NOX. Just sayin.
Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas!

Good job on the Merc!

Sure I myself wish the Nox had a finer grained ID. The thing is though I have had a buddy swing over what was solid dime signals on the Nox with his etrac only to tell me he would not dig it. This has happened several times. I don't holler at him until I think I have silver. So an Etrac can miss silver or miss ID it as junk at times while a Nox can hit it with the right ID. I will be the first to admit I do probably end up digging more junk with the Nox than he does with an Etrac or his CTX. The ID on any machine can help you or hurt you. I don't think any are perfect.

I do very well with my AT Pro and AT Max so I won't be buying anything else. No matter what brand you use switching brands is a risk. You may like the change or you may not and then feel you wasted your money.
