Louis Vuitton 18k white gold bracket at the beach!

.... I guess my next step could be contacting Louis Vuitton, but I'm not sure I would ever be able to get more than melt value anyways.

If it's real, and If you don't think that Louis Vuitton would offer you more than melt value, I would be happy to offer you a few bucks over melt value. See ?
That's what real friends are for after all. :friends:

The weight and the clasp are the biggest red flags for me, I cant find a single picture online with that clasp. The weight of the authentic version is almost double the weight of your piece. Does it make sense to make a fake LV bracelet out of REAL 18K? If it were me, I would bring it to a high end jewelry store that might even sell LV. I'm sure they will be able to tell fairly quickly. Or like you said, possibly contact LV directly, they might be able to tell you if they ever used those clasps in the past. Again, fantastic find, and definitely keep us posted!

I wasn't aware that they would even try to buy something back.

Thank you for helping me look into this. I also agree about the weight and clasp. those were the two factors that really made me think it was counterfeit, and to be honest, the entire time going to the jeweler I was thinking it was going to be fake gold, so I was quite surprised that it was real gold. Hopefully somebody that knows more about Louis Vuitton can tell me if it is real or not, but at least it's real gold. There is a Louis Vuitton store somewhat near my house, hopefully they can verify if these clasps were used in the past. It would be nice to hear if this was a very old design.

This isn't the greatest picture, but I think it will do for chilling what I'm talking about. The jeweler said she believed that it was a counterfeit because there was no "N"at the end of Louis Vuitton, but you can see there is a partial "N". That was her only reasoning, but I'm still skeptical of it being real as well.

I googled vintage Louis Vuitton bracelet, and here are two that are shown using similar clasps.

Hmm

Your bracelet has a spring ring clasp, the two pictured here are lobster claws. Not sure what that jeweler is talking about, you can clearly see half a "N" at the end of the charm, and that's with a camera, not a microscope. Very interesting scenario, keep us updated please!

Thank you pointing out the difference, in the clasps, I wasn't sure of the names.

I believe it's a possibility that the jeweler was trying to get it for really cheap considering how adamant I thought it was a counterfeit.

Hopefully I could take it in to somebody with more knowledge in the next week.

After searching for Louis Vuitton bracelets with a spring ring clasp, it looks like they have previously used this style. Now I'm starting to think it may be real.

How about some better photos? No flash. Indirect or reflected light works best. I would like to see how well it is crafted.

Those look fake also. The jump rings aren't even soldered. Can't imagine a $3,000 necklace with jump rings that are only pressed together.

:dingding: Even if it's not a real LV at least it's probably gold. I have a fake Cartier ring that I found that is made of real gold. I think your best bet would be to find an LV store and have them look at it like cellrdwellr suggested.

Dang..> USED those things are going for a couple grand...

I personally don't get how any brand can charge that much for a couple hundred bucks of molded gold, but wow, what a find if you can sell it!

Skippy

yeah and that's another issue I am having with looking online, I can't even verify if what I'm looking at is real or not, but those pictures I posted they were asking over $1,000 for each piece. Here are a few more photos using a light ring instead of the flash on my camera. I also cleaned it with warm water.

Just take it to LV in the fashion valley mall. Probably not far from you in the 619. Get some skills with a MAGNET. Then get an acid test kit. Getum online for around $ 30 for a good one with a scratch stone and wood box. Eventually you will get good at telling real gold by the FEEL IN YOUR HAND and of course the look. Weight could be a factor on your piece. And it doesn't look well made for high end jewelry. I see some impurities or spotting , which shouldn't be there .The higher karat you go , the more familiar you will get noticing how heavier the piece is in your hand in relation to it's size. I will be hunting the 619 over the next week. Good luck !

Having just moved to Las Vegas from the SD 619 and not being able to hunt a dang beach I have to admit.... I am seriously Jelly!!!!!! Great find regardless. I assume it was at LJ ??

Hope conditions are getting better down there. I've heard that I haven't been missing to much. I just miss the sand in my toes and the white water hitting my chest.

Well I have an update, I ended up going to the jeweler down the street and just got home.

after one of my last posts, I called a jeweler down the street to see if they would be willing to tell me if it was real or not, which they told me to bring it in and they will test it for free. I told them that I found it metal detecting and was questioning if it's real because there are so many counterfeits out there. I pointed out the pendant that said Louis Vuitton and the clasp that said 750. She examined the bracelet under a magnifier for a few minutes, and then proceeded with an acid test. She tested the pendants as well as the chain. mind you, I have no idea how the acid test works, so I wasn't sure of the results while I was watching her. Next she put it on the scale, examine it further under the magnifier, entered some stuff into her computer, and then offered to buy it from me for $100. she told me it was testing as real gold but she believes it is a counterfeit Louis Vuitton because the Makers Mark is missing the "N". But if you look close, the N is there, it just seems like it has possibly worn off over time, either from the original owner, or from being in the ocean for who-knows-how-long. I'll see if I can get a better picture to show the imprint of the N more clearly. She asked if I wanted to sell it, I told her no, she offered me $150 LOL. I explained that if it was real I would just like to hold onto it.

Ultimately it is a counterfeit made out of real gold, or possibly a real Louis Vuitton that is very old?

Your jeweler sounds like someone at one of those "We Buy Gold" places, that always offer a somewhat low amount, based on Karat and pennyweight alone. They do not pay for brand name value when they buy. She must have verified some good gold content, but likely had no clue if it was a real LV.
Commonly, these places only offer around half the melt value of the gold. So I did a quick calculation of 6.5 grams of 750, or 18K gold, at a fairly current melt rate of $35 per gram. My calculator says $227.50. So, real world value should be around $200. Being the skeptic I am, I'm guessing she bumped up her lowball offer on the hopes it might be a real Louis Vuitton. The lame missing "N" comment is a dead giveaway that she was trying to devalue it, hoping you would cave, and take the Benjamin. So glad to hear you didn't! Still can't tell you if the brand is authentic, but very nice score, even if it isn't!

Why did you move there ? 4hr drive for you now. Yeah...there are some finds , but it hasn't been the greatest ...
