An Unusual Find

Between the first and second lick of paint on the kitchen door and taking a well-earned coffee break Derek, our painter and decorator friend, reminisced about finding an unusual coin whilst walking along the canal bank.

Kurt’s Lost Wedding Ring

Last summer detectorist Steve Wright (aka the barnacle) from the BMD forum had a call from an old friend to say that he had lost his gold wedding ring in the garden whilst cutting the hedge. Steve replied that it wasn’t a problem and he was sure to find it! What confidence!

The Wendover Hoard

Wendover is a picturesque village in Buckinghamshire and often described as the gateway to the Chiltern Hills. I know it well … a boy I used to teach many years ago was detecting with his friend Richard and found a hoard of 19 hammered coins in one of his father’s fields.

This article, previously published in The Searcher magazine was the catalyst for the second in the series of Hoard Hunters to be broadcast on Tuesday 4 June 2013 – History Channel 10pm UK Time.

The Golden Phallus

It's a fact that phalluses were everywhere in ancient Rome and were a widespread symbol. For example, eroticism and sexuality were prevalent in every form of Roman art, from paintings to sculpture and even jewellery. The Killer Claw

Simon’s special find of the day was silver and reminded him of the 1984 film A Nightmare on Elm Street, and specifically one of Freddy Kruger’s killer claws. What he had found was indeed a killer claw in the guise of a cockfighting spur - quite a special and rare detectorist find.

The Tin Box Detectorist

I sometimes wish that my metal detector was as good at finding Celtic gold staters as I am at attracting old tin boxes. I’ve just added a new one to my growing collection.

Thanks for all your comments.

I like the story however I have had permits for several county parks around my area. The no digging policy is on all of the permits issues except for one county.

However after showing my permit and talking with many workers they usually give me the go ahead and tell me not to leave any holes I've even had a few of the rangers interested in trying my machine. So it really is ignorant people behind the scenes and people leaving holes ruining it for everyone else.

When talking to anyone about metal detecting i go in with a amile and try to keep the conversation positive and explain the proper detecting procedures

Positive Thinking in Action

In March I posted my sure-fire method for success when metal detecting. Steve Hale has just started what he calls this amazing and addictive hobby and says that a pal invited him to one of his permissions and they were not finding much...
