My wife collects sleigh bells.. I took a brass ring and a buckle I found and some of her bells and ordered this strap.... I also took some copper I found and cut a Christmas tree out and soldered it to the brass buckle..

Over the years I have bought her quite a few bells for her collection.. It only come out for the holidays.. I'll have to pull it out early and get a few pictures for this thread...

I'm happy to say I've even found a couple and some pieces for her collection! I would love to find a bunch more.. I probably would have more if I hadn't turned into such a gold grubbing water pirate..

This would be most of mine in 6 or 7 years, as I did give some away.
I notice every time I pick them up more of the "clapper" falls out, I'm thinking at some point they will completely rot away, does anyone oil them ?

Only found one with a makers mark, a fav. and one of the larger ones may have actually belonged to a relative, the one with the string so it is kind of special too.

Does anyone put oil on the clapper to keep it from rotting away ? or some other treatment ? I'm kiind of afraid they will eventually no longer ring if I don't do something soon.

I don't know of anyone that oils the clapper.

I found this one (on the left) two weeks ago Friday. By far my best yet. Still has the clapper in it. The one on the right was found 35 miles away, and until now I didn't realize it matched the other. I gave that one to the local historical society to display. If I ever get it back I'll have to look them over to see if they are made by the same company.
