Is it just me, or does anyone else dislike having to screw the charging cable in all the time to charge the Nokta Legend?

Has anyone seen a short/compact coupler/adapter that you screw into the charging/data port?

I know it comes with a charging cable but you have to unscrew the protective seal cap on the back of the unit and then screw in the provided charge cable that comes with the unit every time you want to charge it.

I know it's designed the way it is to keep it dry, but I have an idea. I think it would be great, if instead of unscrewing the protective cap and then screwing in the provided power cable to charge it, what if you could screw in a short solid coupler. One end looks just like the provided cable that screws into the unit. The other end could be a usb female port with a cap of some type. A type C female charging port on the coupler would be great if feasibile. This way, if you know your not going to be out in the rain or in wet environments, you could just leave it screwed in the port and when you need to change the legend, pop off the cap on the adapter/coupler and plug in the usb charging cable. If you think it know your going to be in a wet environment, unscrew and remove the couple and put the cap back on.

"Please don't say, just use the provided cable, it's not hard to do", of anything like that.
I know it's there, it's not hard to do, it don't take that long...
I would just like to walk in with my detector, headphons and phone and plug it all in at my charging station.

I know, "It's a first world problem", but isn't that how don't good ideas have been come up with.

I'm also aware the charging cable port is also the data port and we want to keep it clean and dry. Just saying, screw in charging port would be nice.

It probably could of been designed better. A magnetic charging connection would be slick. What really burns most folks biscuits are the navigational buttons. Just my opinion.

Yes, that's feasible.

Also, there's no need to screw in and unscrew the charging cable. Just plug it in and pull it out.

I’m assuming you’re referring to the external spare battery here, Diga? I don’t have that (I don’t hunt long enough periods to make it worth the investment), so if I want to charge my Legend, the screw/unscrew rigmarole is definitely necessary. But yes, for those who want the convenience of a simpler connection process without making modifications, purchasing the external battery might be the way to go…just easier, though a pricier option.

Edit: nevermind, I see what you’re saying…the charge cable doesn’t really need to be screwed in place. It’ll charge without being screwed in, just tried it on my machine. Works fine as long as the machine is in a spot where it won’t get bumped…problem solved. Kinda makes everything I wrote above and below irrelevant.

All that said, sure DP, I’d guess it’s possible to modify the charging cable the way you described. As a layman, I don’t know how easy it would be - with the pinned connector and the dual purpose as a data port, I just don’t know how the wire splicing would need to go to make it happen, but certainly doable.

Yep, you can count me in as one of the people who dislikes the screw/unscrew layout of the charging cable. I don’t know about anyone else’s, but mine isn’t exactly easy to twist - seems to bind up a bit unless I constantly give it a slight wiggle. It’s a cross-thread situation waiting to happen…just add dirt or grit.

That waterproofed port is an internal battery charging port, external battery port, online update data port and a hardwire adapter wired headphone port.

Ya...the threads on that port, are for the cap, external battery, etc. Otherwise, when charging, use it like any other USB charging port. No need to screw in the charging cable.

The cap is to keep out dirt. The connector itself is waterproof. The detector can even be submerged in water without the cap on.

AT, I've been on the Legend's Facebook page since the Legend was introduced. It has thousands of members, and I've never once heard of that cap be cross threaded :)

Think something like this will work? Print a very little box to go on the back of the unit with the small cable inside it connected to this on the outside.

Yes, the cap is fine…spins on and off smooth as silk. It’s the charging cords that aren’t so smooth for me. I have two of them, and both are not nearly as smooth going on and off for some reason. Like I said, just a little more “bindy”. No worries, I can’t cross thread ‘em if I don’t use ‘em! I won’t be tightening them down anymore, unless a software update comes along. I’d still ratchet the cords into place before doing an update to be sure the cable doesn’t disconnect before it’s done uploading and risk botching something up.

AT, I got the battery included in a package.

The best part about it is how it really balances out the unit while detecting with the 12x9 coil.

Yes, I wondered about that…I have a counterweight on my Equinox for the larger coils (EQX 11 and 15) and it really makes a difference. The Legend seems a little more balanced out of the box for me, but could still use a little help. That would be a nice fringe benefit of the external battery. Lately, my hunts haven’t been much longer than a couple hours at a time, usually less, and the longest was about 4…that one felt like a marathon in comparison! If I start getting some time back for longer hunts, I might go for the power pack. For now I have a third party “kick stand” that utilizes the battery rail. My Legend was toppling over too often for my tastes when I was putting it down to dig. The kickstand has a wider footprint than the stock arm cuff, giving better stability.
