My wife's family is talking about taking a trip to Lake George. I am wondering if you are able to detect at Lake George. I would like to take both my Excalibur and my xterra 705. So if anyone knows if you can detect there or if you need a permit I would greatly appreciate it.

Definitely find out. A few years back I bought a decent size coin and relic collection all dug on the lake and it was incredible. Primo condition Rev War buttons, Spanish silver, many great relics... fantastic stuff. It was an old collection dug many years ago, but gave a good idea what was there and what is possible.

a lot of folks detect on million dollar Beach.I believe you need a day pass of some sort to detect though.I have heard there's one police guy that's pretty tough on you if you don't have it.
I plan on detecting up there this summer.not at the beach but another location nearby, that has shown a lot of promise Since it has already produced a handful of nice finds

I live near and go to Lake George every weekend in the spring and summer...That being said I will beat you to any targets:lol:. On a serious note besides myself I have seen a few others there. Right in the village there is Shepards Park Beach. You can hunt the beach area only there. Its not very big. As other poster mentioned The biggest is Million Dollar beach. You just need to get permission from manager there. The thing with that particular beach is there are 3-4 workers I see detecting very early in the morning hours before its even open. Over on the east side of the lake about 5 mins from Million Dollar beach is Ushers Park Beach. This is a small beach that is down a very steep hill. There is a park/picnic area that I have hunted with no problems. The Lake George region is full with battle history and such. Across from Million Dollar beach is a very big field. DO NOT GO IN THERE WITH A DETECTOR !! This is the old battle grounds..Lots of old French and indian history around. Ushers Beach has a gate and does not open until 8am. Shepard park beach in the village is open 24/7. I believe Million Dollar beach opens 9-10am. Lake George is a beautiful place to visit. Lots to do. I have the privilege of taking care of a $4 million dollar home there and spends lots of time up there in the summer. I normally detect around 6am before any people are around. If you need any info drop me a PM and I can help you out no problems......good luck !!

I heard you need a permit for million Dollar Beach but, shepherds park is free? Sounds like a plan!
