Key-like object

A friend of mine found this today and our group is stumped as to what it is.
It appears to be copper and might be 100 years old.
Any ideas?

My best guess is, a broken handle from a snuff spoon. Not confident though.

cabinet door latch where u raise it up and open the door and to close it u drop it back into the latch area on the frame.
