Been that way forever. COPPER pennies and dimes are so close that sometimes (many times) you'll think you have a dime and it's a penny. nothing wrong with the machine though. On my M6 clad dimes ring in at 77 and copper pennies ring in at 76 but sometimes a 77 will be a penny.

Is there a metal composition difference in 1960 and '62?

Yes they made a change in '62 and kept it till Oct. of '82 when they went to what's now called Zincolns. Here's a very good explanation of all the different changes to the penny:
