Hello All,

I'm pretty much a total noobie to metal detecting. I ordered a Nokta Makro Simplex + yesterday and have been reading through the forums absorbing info since then.

I always thought metal detecting was interesting and I finally decided to get into it myself. I don't have any real expectations, I just want to get out and be more active and I figure metal detecting will be the catalyst for that. I imagine many new folks entering the metal detecting hobby started for the same reason. If I have the good fortune to find anything it will just be icing on the cake for me.

All that being said, I would love to find a meteorite out in the desert, that would be pretty sweet.

I read the Metal Detecting Code of Ethics and agree with it completely.

I live in the greater Phoenix metro area. West Valley to be more specific. I think I'll start out at the small parks around my house to get a feel for how my machine works and after more research and understanding of the laws for my area expand my search further.

Just wanted to say hello and introduce myself to the members here.

Welcome from "Parts Unknown" NY! Going meteorite hunting is on my list of things to do also.

The Simplex looks like a great metal detector that I will own soon. If you know somebody who owns a meteorite and you have your Simplex, what I would do is go and air test the Simplex with it and set it up that way until you get to know what the Simplex is telling you.

One last thing, You joined a great group of people here.

Good Luck and Happy Hunting!

Thanks for all of the kind words and welcome. Looking forward to sharing my finds with you all down the road.

Welcome from Winnsboro, South Carolina !!!!

Meteorite hunting sounds neat, I thought I found some on my own property, but I am not sure even though they are slightly attracted to a magnet, there are many rocks out there that look like they could be but are not, I found some web sites related to that, here are the links below -

I bookmarked these links to read through later on. Thanks for sharing them with me.

My wife and I got married up the road in Wittman in 1984, and went to high school in Wickenburg. We've lived in Ohio now since 96. Welcome to the forum and the best of luck to you.

It's funny that you mention Wittman. That will be the first place I plan on using my metal detector at a buddies property out there. Should be a fun spot to practice at.
