Introducing:Myself

Welcome from NY! I started with the Ace 250 a couple years ago and found many keepers with it. Was using it in parks mostly at the time and learned to pay attention to the depth meter; 6" or deeper had better chances of being older coins. Good luck!

Welcome from the Texas Hill Country. The ACE 250 is a decent detector. I used one for a while when they first came out and ended up with another one that my brother bought before he gave up the hobby. I made some good finds with it but moved on to detectors that provided better visual ID. Hope you find lots of good stuff.

Welcome

Welcome to the [addictive] hobby & to the Forum! :fmdfwelcome:

Some tips that I've learned (most of them from this forum) are:

  1. Dig the weak signals - it can be a good target really deep
  2. As Princess mentioned, Test in your yard, get used to your machine, plus you can make a little extra money, I've found over $1.25 in my yard
  3. Be persistent, don't give up
  4. and most importantly, have fun!
If you need a good digging tool, here is the one I use: 12 inch Serrated Shovel. It's about $13 but well worth it. It has a 7.5 inch blade, very heavy duty (Carbon steel), and has a blaze orange handle (so it's not easy to loose). :D

If you find an item that you are unsure of what it is, feel free to post it in the Help To ID My Finds section of the forum.

Hey! I'm Collin I'm new to the metal detecting world. Me and my buddy Riley are Revolutionary War nerds so we went to NJ/PA for Spring Break, rented a metal detector and were hooked. We didn't find anything great but some cool stuff I'll later post. We bought a Garrett Ace 250 with a DD coil for $190. We live in Michigan the Livonia/Westland/Garden City Area and are always down for another pair or someone to detect with us, especially someone who knows what they are doing. I have a few places in mind as well. As for any tips any of you guys have please send them my way I know the basics so just anything based off your personal experience.

A few questions I have.

weak signals worth detecting?
Do different objects have certain beeping patterns?
Is the Garrett Ace 250 a good starters detector?
Any recommended tools or accessories?
Do they make a shovel that beeps when you scoop the metal?

Thanks, Collin.

A shovel that beeps when the target is in it..............very interesting! I wonder what the ROI would be on that?
