If you had a choice.

Which would you pick. The XP Deus or CTX 30/30? I realize there are always pro/con with everything.
Thanks for you time and mind.

What kind of hunting do you do? Land for relics? Trashy parks? Water? Beaches? Based on your post being in the coins/relics section, I could assume land but I figured it was worth getting to specifics rather than assume. And what detector(s) do you have now, or have you used in the past?

I don't own a CTX 3030, nor have I ever used one (or any Minelab machine) so I'm not qualified to compare & contrast. But I do own an XP Deus, and love it. Would never claim it is "THE best", but it certainly deserves the praise (and some of the criticisms!) it gets. But I'd be able to tell you more relevant things about it if I knew more about what you've used, like/dislike in general about machines you've used in the past, and what you hunt for.

Take care,
Rich

My CTX is the detector I use in virtually every situation so I am obviously biased. I could not make a fair comparison because I have never used the Deus. Having said that, I can't imagine a detector doing more than my CTX. I have about 150 hours on it and can literally pick coins from the trash. People who hunt with me use Whites, Garrett, and Etrac and I can hunt behind any of them and find good signals.

If you're hunting only land you really can't go wrong with either machine. I hear the deus is an amazing machine and know several accomplished detectorists in my area using them. It seems to keep up with the CTX 3030 very well, and I think it's just a matter of who is more proficient and obsessed when it comes to their style and method of hunting. But I think if it came down to it and you took two obsessively compulsive meticulous detectorists, and put them side-by-side in the same park...
one with the CTX 3030 and one with the deus.... I think the CTX 3030 would win out by about 15%

Where I hunt

Hi Rich! At the present I use an assortment of Garrett machines. I have both At-machines, the infinium LS, and a fisher 1266. I hunt mostly dirt. Whether it's wooded or turf. I do also hunt in the water any chance I can. Here in Louisiana there are few safe swimming holes. I use my infinium in the surf when I beach hunt.
I am looking for a machine that discriminates actual ferrous items vs discriminating good items because you have increased the disc on the machine. I definitely know there is a big difference in the machines I've mentioned vs the machines I'm using. The cost is about the same for the deus & CTX.
Thanks for the input.

Well, Rich, I know this won't help you any, but...

One of my best hunting partners, who used to OWN a detecting shop, and has been at the hobby for nearly 50 years, and who has swung about every machine known to man at one point or another, has narrowed his arsenal to two (the two he feels are the very best, and can cover all the hunting scenarios he will ever hunt)...what two are they?

The CTX-3030, and the Deus... :)

Moral of the story is, I don't think you can go wrong either way (though I'm a Minelab FBS guy myself, and am biased in that direction...)

Steve

Thanks y'all!

Aye everyone! Thanks for all the input bias or otherwise.
Sooooo how deep has your CTX or XP Deus actually rendered a dime, quarter, half dollar or smaller?

My deepest coin so far is a barber I got at 8 inches and j was in auto sensitivity and it was hitting it really good and it was caked with iron. I have only had my ctx for about a month

Ive never used either one , but if it was to be used primarily as a coin/general purpose detector I presonally wouldnt buy either one for the prices they cost. There may be situations where those two machines might outperform a lower cost yet still upper level detector , but the majority of the places most of us hunt and the possible finds there are well within reach of a more cost effective machine. But thats just me and my personal opinion. Not trying to say you shouldnt get one of the detectors you mentioned if you dont mind spending the money.

Got it.

That makes sense. I've made terrific discoveries with my Garrett machines. I guess I needed to here that from somebody else.
Happy Hunting

They are two completely different detectors and each excel at what they are designed to do. The Deus is a fast, fast, did I say fast machine that can pull good targets out of just about any trashy situation. It's very lightweight, completely wireless and very programable. I have never owned a 3030 but I have owned an Etrac and the Deus. There were situations where each one would outperform the other. If I had my choice, I would have 1 of each !!!!

how many people even own both of these, let alone 1 or the other? You're talking 2 of the most expensive machines out there so I would imagine very few, if anyone on this forum, can give you an accurate comparison.

I've only held a 3030, never actually used it. Just the weight/balance alone would lead me to buy the Deus over it. That and the Deus is the easiest machine to break down w/ it's telescoping shafts/quick release. Those two alone make it a killer machine. As far as side by side, I cannot comment. I'd have to swing a 3030 to provide that. Got one for me to try out free of charge?

As far as weight goes for the 3030 its a non issue for me. I can hunt 6 hours straight with it with no issues at all. The etrac was like swinging a bowling ball compared to the dirty3030

Both MDs

I know several members here and at the other forum that Have owned both, AF Mike for one, My first Deus seller Steve from Findmall for Two, And a couple other members I can't remember the names of? As Pescador stated, having both would be great! I plan on Getting a CTX in the future Myself! BUT I personally would have to choose the Deus as I have no real need for a Semi-Waterproof MD like the CTX, Don't need the 3 Plus "Extra" LBs to carry and swing, Don't need Overly complicated, And "I just Love my Deus"! I think there is probably a reason Andy Sabisch, the Minelab Guru, has switched to the Deus! His book is great by the way! Even you Minelab Guys and Girls have to wonder why your Guru defected and don't appear to be writing a CTX Book??? I'm sure I will draw wrath for this reply,,, LOL ...GL & HH.....Pat

Oh no andy does not swing a 3030 the deus must be better! Looks like I'm gonna have to trade for the deus now

I'm small and only 5' tall. The weight and telescoping of the Deus makes it a winner in my book, but most of you big, strong men could probably use the CTX quite well. ;)
