I wonder how many wear headphones ?

Still, I recognize the importance of remaining aware of my surroundings. I seldom (actually, probably never) metal detect alone... that's one of the benefits of having my dad & brothers for hunting buddies.
I'm very protective, and I hunt with my wife like 99% of the time. That being said I have programmed myself to not get too involved in hunting and forget to keep track of her. I constantly look for her while swinging. Even while retrieving a target, I look up long enough to see where she is.

I always wear headphones. Love the wireless.

I come from a time when hearing those very faint signals was critical for depth and ID'ing. The digital detectors of today can enhance those faint signals, but headphones help isolate the surrounding noise so you can hear those little nuances that can help you decide to recover or not. Besides, it keeps the beeping from drawing attention while you're hunting.

I've been detecting for more then 50 and never used headphones. The headphones that came with my last detector, I gave to Goodwill.

Digz1313, we don't want you running around with no clothes :laughing: I have 2 pair, one new wired, and one wireless, know I should wear them, I hunt mostly woods, usually nobody around.

I always wear headphones wired or not especially on the beach with the waves.
Minelab price increase after the first of the year is coming so I ordered a pair of ML-85s for backup to my ML-105s incase they go down for my Manticore.

I wear my wired headphones that came with my AT Pro. Use them all the time, they help with carefully listening to all signals but I still hear stuff going on around me.

Always, wireless. In warmer weather I will use earbuds but really prefer headphones. Besides attracting attention I don't think you can pick up as much using the speaker.
Good point! I had forgotten that this is another reason why I wear headphones. 😆

It's great that you take such good care of her!

In cold weather a tight fitting pair of headphones keeps your ears warm. But on the beach in July they are intolerable. That is one of the reasons I traded my Legend for an XP DEUS.
The DEUS has a looser fit and is more comfortable.
And you really need them at the beach because of wind and wave noise. Plus I don't want beachgoers have to listen to my beeps.

Hello friend, have you ever thought about going wireless for your AT, I have them for my AT Pro . Don't remember how much, think they weren't too bad. Bought them from Big Boy Toys. Let me know if yours h.p. die, got a brand new wired head phones still in box, you can have if needed, let me know.

2008 - 2019 no headphones or rarely ever used them as I hunt alone although always advised to wear them . I Did very well without them.. For some reason I started to wear the GreyGhosts and like them.. I personally think it makes no difference.. IMHO..

Wireless Headphones Over Ear ..Sometimes forget they are on I can hear what going on around you

Full cups make the ears sweat

Ear buds fells like your ears are in water echo effect

While I wear noise reduction earphones all the time, I don't wear them while detecting. Staying aware of my surroundings. First defense is always to stare down whoever approaches, friendlies don't care but scum get spooked. But you have to hear them coming!

I prefer headphones, I can hear the deeper tones and intricacies of the tones better. And in the winter the over-ear headphones keep my ears warm.
I can't understand why anyone wouldn't wear them.
But most of the time I'm hunting places where I'm listening for those barely audible high tones as all the shallow silver is long gone .

rarely use ear buds or headphones, because I don't like the way they feel or block my outside hearing. I would like to try some low latency bone conducting buds. Ive seen a couple people say they work well and give you the ability to hear your surroundings while also hearing your detector
