Hurricane to Mix things up?

update

Looks like it's going to hit the Chesapeake Bay as a Cat 1,2 other hurricanes took the same path & left alot of problems,we finally get a brake with the heat & humidity here, now this,i just hope that this storm down grades for you all in Florida & the Carolinas,as Goodmore said, enough to move the sand was all that was needed,a nice cut,the good news is,it's moving faster now,and won't be a hurricane that sticks around,You all be safe in Florida & the Carolina's

=Sultan of Sand;901798]Goodmore, absolutely no reason to apologize. I agree, if a storm comes we do what we do. I'll be out there. Nothing wrong with sand getting moved around. It's the "been prayin" for a good storm or "hoping' for a storm type posts that I find very offensive. These storms can hurt people. Why would we pray for something that is going to hurt people or destroy their homes? So, we can find more trinkets on the beach? Are we that greedy? That's the point

I make no apologies for wanting a storm. I have lived in south Florida my whole life, and I am at risk as much as anybody else. My house doesn't even have a windstorm policy right now, and I live a mile from the beach. With the exception of Katrina, almost nobody dies from hurricanes. Bring it on. I won't even be home during the storm. I'll be 100 miles up the coast riding it out in my truck waiting for those gold escudos to be spit up on the beach.

No worries now, it has shifted east enough for me. I live along the coast near Amelia Island. I will wave as it passes by. Where it is going I just moved from in March, Virginia Beach. Best wishes to my friends there and our members who work the beaches. I know MAX will be out there the day after!

You really can't predict what a hurricane is going to do 3 days out. They can change direction at the last moment. Hurricane David(1979) is a perfect example. There is still hope for the treasure coast. C'mon Irene! la,la la la la la...

What tips do you have for hunting the beach after a storm?

I plan to mainly hit Folly Beach in Charleston, but I may swing over to some choice places on Sullivans Island and IOP where the beach were part of Revolutionary War and Civil War battles.

Few years ago, It was like a hunting frenzy for 3 days then the targets just disappeared. Bill pushed targets that had been buried for years onto the beach.
Advice, it's either going to cut the beach up (uncover) or it's going to dump tons of buried targets onto the beach...which if you have any places where there might be ship wrecks just off the coast...it's a real good thing.......... Get out and talking to the oldtimer fishermen that have lived in the area for years.....

I was on Cape Cod during Bill... they made us leave our waterfront house... water got within a couple feet of the front door before receding... that was a heck of a hunt Joe :)

Isabel comes to mind. Lots of damage from that one. With luck this will track further east and miss us all. Too early to tell.

It won't bother me at all if it never makes landfall as long as it stays close enough to move a lot of sand

What area of the beaches do you hit the hardest in relation to the low and high tide marks?

In my limited beach hunting so far and have tried different areas about evenly. However I have found way more coins in the dryer areas new and just above the high tide mark All of my quarters have been near the high tide area.

However my silver ring was near the surf.

I'm getting good at identifying bottle caps with my AT PRO by switching on the iron audio with the sensitivity way up. It will give me a wide halo of low iron beeps around the high pitch beep right above the bottle cap. I've gotten really good at identifying these before I dig them.

Do you guys continue to dig bottle caps or do you just skip them?

I realize digging pull tabs is unavoidable. My AT PRO gives a very strong clear ID around 53 for both pull tabs and nickles at the beach. From what I've read some jewelry will come up around this range as well.

Hey everyone, ive been busy working, its a goood thing in this economy but i will venture out next week just because of the storm headn up towards NJ.
HH

Dig it all dpending, on the treasure coast, dig it all, might be a nice spike... Daytona... i would concentrate on the gold VDI's and I have found a ring that is a perfect 24 on my DFX which is a pull tab also. nickles are 20... I would like to find a nice 53...

What is the range of numbers? The AT Pro is 1-100.

You have low tones, which are iron. Mid tones, which are nickel, aluminum, and gold. Then high tones which are (zinc pennies at the lower end of the high tone, then copper pennies, then dimes quarters, silver rings, ect.)

Well it doesn't look like Florida is getting stured up,it depends on the timing weather it comes inland, timing between the way the jet stream is running and the time it gets up here to the Carolina's,if you don't know what i mean it's on the National and local weather forcast, hurricane hhtp//;www.weather.com,and on channel 362 directv, timing to which it stays out or comes inland to maryland,we don't need 10 inches of rain, with chesapeake bay serge, high winds,if it takes a track east,New England brace yourself,:roll:i hope everybody stays safe, and it goes east&dies:roll:they just said that Florida will still get the big surf,Earl

hey guys, I think there is misunderstanding from people that have never experienced the aftermath of the coastal storm. First throughout history and this can easily be documented in the old photographs of the 1926 hurricane that wiped out Hollywood Florida. After the storm there are many photos of people wandering the beach in small groups and large talking collective. This is common after a store people have been stressed out four days. They had to the beach after they have secured what they can. I think it's the fact that the beach after such a violent storm becomes a calm friendly place immediately after and people find comfort in the familiar setting and realize that no matter how bad everything looks it will get back to normal.

Secondly mds aren't metal detecting around damaged buildings or trying to find lost items from the storm damage. What they are looking for are items that have been buried beneath the sand and now after things have moved around long-lost items are closer to the surface.

I know for a fact that after a storm no one is running for their metal detector their first concerns for their families safety it's amazing neighbors that you would even talk to the gay next-door you're willing to help them get things organized no matter what kind of a azzh#$% they are the rest of the year.

Also depending on the severity of the storm most cities close all traffic to the beach until it has been surveyed and evaluating that it is safe powerlines unsecured buildings. I know in my area you cannot enter for several days without showing identification and proof that you have business in the area.

Hope this clears up some of the misunderstood statements. Enjoy your hobby my number one rule is you can do what ever you like as long as it doesn't affect my freedoms to do whatever I want and we can all just get along

P.S just from Dania beach total take $.20 all pennies one toy car one earing a piece of rusted metal and only three bottle caps I'm getting better at recognizing the battle caps with the wot and earbuds. Sounds different than the headphones not much just clear I think:shock:

It's a rain maker ! we had almost 12 inchs in the first 24 hrs. 7 to 9 ft waves were hitting the shore and the winds made my doors whistle dixie. water was out til last nite and cell tower and cable lines fixed over nite. Soo many rivers are up in flood plains. cant wait to get to the beach but have to wait for the flooding to subside.for now i am going to eat a hot meal w/ my electric stove and watch english language tv lol HH to all and stay safe
