Hunting your home inside and out?

Kinda funny about this string. I suppose the older the house the better for lost treasure in it or buried. The thing is if you find something is it worth tearing your house apart. When I bought my house I took a window and a outside door that i didn't need ( 2 outside doors in the kitchen ) redesign the kitchen and found a 1901 pan-american expo pin in the wall but never t-hunted my house totally inside. It was built before the civil war and the family that owned it before me came from Germany in the early 30s they died had one son that was like a hermit, he died, so I always wondered where are the family jewels ? Maybe some day I will dig them up. Anyways the more you dig out of the yard the more you find. Some times you have to dig 100 years of junk off the surface. ....HH.... 401K

Very often in the old days when a house was built the home owner or builder would place a silver coin above the front door.. Often a silver dollar.. Depending on the wealth of the family what they would place there..You'll find it behind the top piece of door trim laying on the header.. The easiest way is pull the interior piece of trim off inside above the front door.. Typically placed there for good luck.. The best in a house I found were 7 new IH pennies standing on edge behind a piece of baseboard trim.. Next to a front door.. Had to been placed there when the trim was installed, seeing as how the trim was caulked and and painted.. I found them when remodeling an old home .. Well there was another time after pulling a kitchen cabinet off while doing a remodel on a very old house an 1854 dime fell from between the cabinet and the wall.... I have to believe it was placed there since the top of the cabinet was about 7 feet off the floor..Really can't imagine it being on top of the cabinet and falling between the wall and cabinet, not sure..You never know what you might find..

True

I agree! I try to take photos of everything I find and even save pieces that are junk. When you put it all together it tells a story. You get an idea of what took place and where. Also, I checked with the neighbors including an elderly ladies who lived here all there lives. In fact two of them are sisters and their dad built their house that they live in now. They have old photos of the area and an old hermit that lived in a cave in the woods but would pass through. This is the man. http://www.npr.org/2011/05/26/136649653/leatherman-remains-a-mystery-even-in-death

Very interesting story but hard to believe since I have been involved in archaological burial excavations, never saw one that there weren't some remains left, at the very least some teeth and small pieces of bone.. Generally lower and upper jaw bones, teeth, some excavations were dated at a 1000 yrs old..
Not to mention there should have been some buttons or bits of clothing still remaining..
The odds of everything being gone except some nails makes it unlikely.. Teeth will last longer in the soil than nails.. No disrespect meant..

None taken :)

He existed but his remains could be scattered anywhere with the wildlife here. Its been so many years and there are reservoirs in the areas. The area is huge in fact one of his caves is near my house.

I have no doubts that the man existed and it could be to numerous reasons that there were no remains found as you said.. I think it would be an interesting book to read.. As I said no disrespect intended..

Thanks I pulled off all my door trim and there was no silver:mad::lol::lol::laughing:

I agree. This thread is very informative and interesting. I would love to see more pictures of the things you guys find in old houses like this.

I will post more photos of my finds inside. Once the weather gets colder, i will be hunting inside. If your handy like me, you can easily put things back together. I just learned I found an error penny. I think it was in the garage.

I also have a very slow bathtub drain since we bought the house, maybe there might be some gold in there.... Ring?
