How sensitive do you run your at pro?

Yeah...I've got all my gold panning gear from when I lived in the Black Hills....so it is interesting to me to see this black sand and in certain areas, the black sand has a red tint from the garnets as well... you 49ers know what that means...if theres gold here, it will be really fine powder.... but maybe a gold cube would work?

probably best to just head into the gold fields somewhere else though...larger flake and nuggetville....heck, thats the dream though...trip across a nice area and make some pay!

They usually dont find large amounts in that black sand but its still free gold just sitting there waiting for someone to take it , that " free " designation usually interests me more than anything even if its not a lot.

I watched a guy with a gold cube at one of the GPAA claims here in Ohio run a bucket full of material he got in a nearby stone quarry through it. I couldnt believe how much gold was actually in there , looked to me like it was near an ounce  Of course the gold in great lakes black sand is finer but the scavenger in me says .....ok , so I will melt it down into a larger size

Its more about the fun and suspense anyway though , a good time outdoors and the suspense of the final reveal.

I run mine as high as conditions allow , which is normally but not always one or two below full. A lot of people don't realize how important it is to match each and every setting to site and conditions. Sensitivity does not necessarily equal depth , and if I notice quirky behavior and or what I consider to be excessive and unnecessary " extra " noise I will bump it down a notch or two. If I am hunting extremely trashy ground with dense targets I will take the sensitivity down to the opposite extreme with only one or two bars showing....this reduces interference from nearby targets out around the edges of the coil and focuses the detection field more to what is directly beneath the coil. That dosent completely stop the target blending or masking but it does help a lot towards target separation and identification.

Mud,
You should add "photography" to your interests/hobbies; as demonstrated by these images, I can see you've got a great "eye" for composition == nicely done!

As close to wide open as possible. I probably spend 90 percent of my time on one bar short of wide open with the remainder of the time split evenly between 2 bars short and wide open.

Do most of you run your at pro 2 notches down from full sensitivity?

Or do you guys run it at maximum?

I know maximum makes the machine go haywire sometimes. Just curious.

Mine has never gone haywire at max sens.
Well except at a saltwater beach (in the wet)

Only once do I remember having to go below max sensitivity. At a large backyard that was surrounded by electric lines.
