How many live vicariously....

Like John said, I watch the vids more in tune with how to use the different machines out there rather than what people are finding. It is good info for the most part.:waytogo:

Was wondering how many here live vicariously through YouTube & tiktoks videos when not able to get out & swing? I know I have these past couple weeks not being able to get out & enjoy this great hobby.
I don't do TicTok but I live on YouTube videos for detecting. We had a brief time when I could get out myself and hunt, but the ground froze again so I wait.

There are a couple of YouTube channels that I follow more than others, but for the most part, I tend to watch the videos of people hunting beaches and are using detectors I have, or might own in the future...

Live vicariously through ? Oh hell no ! The majority here a not very genuine , they have ulterior motives. But there are a few who are sincere straight shooters. I usually like to watch crazy stupid videos like police stops , shoplifters , lot lizards , drunks and drug busts.

I like to see what people are finding in my area, especially guys hunting 1700's cellar holes in the woods. Based on what I've seen, their finds are very similar to what I dig up. Lots of large coppers, very few silver coins and no gold at all. I guess everyone was land rich and cash poor around here.

There are only a few on You Tube that I watch when I am interested in a detector, i watch the Videos of what ever detector or detectors I am interested in maybe purchasing at the time, I watch them for one reason and that is to hear what the tones sound like over targets in the ground, could care less what the target IDs are showing or anything like that, for me being a tone hunter that is all I am interested in once I am satisfied that I either like of dislike the tones I move on and search another video to see if I can hear something different in the tones of detectors I am interested in, I started doing that after I purchased the Nokta/Macro Simplex Plus, I wish I had started watching and listening prior to purchasing the Simplex Plus because I would have never purchased the Simplex Plus at all because of those Dyeing Aflac Goose tones, it sounds like someone has the Aflac Goose in a strangle hold and it refuses to Die

I'm a YouTuber. Those crusty copper disks the east-coasters find, where they have quantity, love the quality just where I am. Gotten a lot of good tips as well.

I only watch youtube videos of a select few detectorists who make clear videos showing the finds (both good and bad), depth and have clear sounds on the audio while swinging and show or tell the TID. This is most helpful when learning a "new to" me detector like the 800, CTX or XP2. From this info I compile a TID chart for the different good and bad targets. But it later boils down to hours you put in swinging the detector you are trying to learn. More hours, more learning.

Compare videos are of little interest to me as are the "I want to be a youtube start" detector videos. On another subject, I know about 6 forum members on the various metal detecting who really know their stuff and are generous in answering my questions. And I have to admit that I enjoy some of the more raucous threads that seem to explode every now and then. All in all this and other metal detecting forums are a nice way to share my hobby with like minded individuals. Most other people (not really into metal detecting) have a very limited understanding of this hobby. There interest is mostly limited to questions like "What is the best thing you ever found?.

I started watching YouTube videos before I got a detector and by the time I Baught one I was all in . Took me sometime to become as successful as I am today but I do watch a good amount of YouTube . Hereā€™s my channel for those who arenā€™t tuned in ;) I mostly beach hunt SoCal but you can often find me digging up history in my area as well . Hereā€™s my latest video

i do on a few different levels ...as a rookie youtuber who doesn't want to get caught up in the editing and music adding bs of youtube but wishes i could make a living in my van making detcting and vanlife vids is one avenue
2nd i live through others finding things I know should be in my area due to history but elude me due to lack of time ,life right now falling apart and private property permissions .

Winter here decided to show up after giving us some nice 60 degree, shorts and sleeveless weather. Got all the gear loaded up and batteries charged, even went out and smacked a silver quarter! However, after all the beautiful weather we've since gotten snow and freezing ground for the last week. So youtube and FMDF it is. Jealous of all you west coast guys who never get locked inside!

Yup. Coastal Valley California : We got it rough. Year round hunting.

If it ever snowed or went below 32* where I'm at, that would be front page news.

I tend to watch the types of hunting i can't do instead of what i can do. I watch nugget panning, sluicing and gold hunting vids. After watching all of Dan Hurds videos, i'm bout to order a gold pan just to hang on the wall, lol.

I watch near 0, except for the rare times I get a new machine and am looking for tips. Years ago I went on a run watching alot of them and got bored and jaded quickly, I determined that many if not most were frauds setting up their finds for clicks, and in any case, tough to get much of a rise out of someone else finding something. One guy I recall was a tot lot slayer who rode a bike all over town to detect, he was pretty interesting but kinda frantic, I was finding myself stressed after watching him.

I occasionally watch some of the babes like Nora, even she gets boring after a while, guess I got a short attention span.

"Lucky Gin" is probably the hottest of the bunch. No offense to the women who hunt and I know they love the hobby. But after about 3 minutes with any of em' , I'm spent. I find myself yelling at them for their blunders. šŸ˜ƒ

Ironically, I grew up in the desert. I've spent almost my whole life in one desert or another. How I eneded up in MT is beyond me but I don't hate it just the weather.
