how does your wife view your time metal detecting?

"When I hear the P,P,Parson say, 'Will you honor and obey?' I'm afraid I'll up and answer, "A whoop a bleep a bly, gimme piece of Pie!" "When I'm in her P,P, P, parlor, I take off and a hoo, hoot, and holler, and all, all, all ways get into dutch!

You gotta google up 'Homer and Jethro' to make much sense of this reply of mine.."I stutter too much" Homer and Jethro..Olde tymey before internet kind of entertainment...Folks had to talk face to face back then...back in the 80's....

About a year after I retired my wife told me that I needed to find something to do so that I got out of the house and quit getting underfoot. She threatened to duct tape me to a chair and make me watch 'Mayberry' reruns 'til I puked if I didn't. So, I grabbed my old detector out of the shed and took off. She's OK with me 'going wandering', especially when I bring home a gold or silver ring that she thinks is "OK". Seven of the twelve rings she wears almost daily I found detecting, two gold (one with a ruby), four silver (three with stones) and one hybrid (silver with gold).
Three and a half years and multiple detectors/coils later, all paid for with clad, I'm a happy wanderer, and my wife approves of my hobby. Works for us!

If i’d wanted to be happy, I’d never had gotten married to begin with.

My thoughts exactly... life was so much simpler before I erred... you know what I have to look forward to in 3 months... she needs a total knee replacement and I will have to help her with everything... Its going to suck... winter is my beach hunting time...

Man, when I hear some of you guys, it makes me so thankful to be married to my best friend. She's always supported me in whatever I do including metal detecting. Of course, I hope I have reciprocated as well. There is no one that I'd rather be with than my wife.

We've hiked into some tough spots, me with my detector and her with a good book and a picnic. Good wife, good life. 44 years and still grateful. What a deal. Hope there are lots more couples that enjoy their time together.

The trick is to get your woman introduced to the hobby. I got my girlfriend, Sue, interested about 7 years ago and we go detecting virtually every weekend weather permitting.

Ok sure... I took her 1 time and won't make that mistake again... I was on a spot where I had 3 gold rings in the pouch in 45 minutes.. she walks down to waters edge and tells me she is bored and wants to go home... so we pack up and I tell myself I will be back on the next low tide cycle... fast forward to next low tide my trough is covered... she is not interested in my low class hobby... her exact words.

My wife has no problem at all with me detecting, but I do have an extensive "to do" list of various projects I need to make regular progress on, as well as everyday chores, and being a caregiver for her mom, so my time would be limited to short nearby hunts as I need to stay close to home being a caregiver.

This thread did remind me of a funny pic though, about "Ralph" convincing his wife about his new detecting hobby :laughing::laughing:

here's another funny pic about someone named "Mudd" trying to sneak out to detect, no relation to "Mud":laughing::laughing:

I feel your pain...….:bighanky: Some of us here are lucky enough to have a wife or girlfriend who either enjoys the hobby or at least is OK with us being involved in it. I'm just wondering....what would a "high class" hobby be?

Wifes and metal detecting

My wife considers it a total waist of time , she thinks my time could be much better spent working on all the projects she wants done.

My wife loves it because she's usually 10 steps ahead of me swinging her AT Pro. Now you may ask, "Hey Jim, doesn't she find all the good stuff ahead of you"? "Well no ... she's swinging an AT Pro ... there's plenty of good stuff left for me and my CTX" :sissyfight::hornetsnest::worms:

She's also my secret weapon for door knocking ..... she's wayyyyyyy better looking then me!!!! :ewink:

Haha, perfect. It has been raining for three days. It finally let up. Wife just came down from upstairs for lunch. "Isn't there some treasure that you need to go out and find, or something." Evidently I'm underfoot and in the way. Catch you guys later. I'm out of here.

My ex-wife used to try to tell me that I had too many detectors hanging up in the hobby cave. I only had three, an Etrac, Explorer XS, and a Coinmaster. I explained to her that all of them get used and often times reminded her of her shoe and purse fetish. Long story short, after three years of that bull !!!! we are divorced and I now have unlimited detecting days and two additional machines, not to mention great firearms, in the hobby cave. She still drives by occasionally and sees me park and yard hunting only to have me wave to her with my metal detector in the air! The world just doesn't need limitations in our great hobby!
