What a hunt... 29 large cents which all appear to be draped busts, and 2 half cents which are also DB's.... all found in a 20x20 area in the woods. Still more out there too... I've checked 5 largies and the 2 half cents and only got a date off of one large cent and one half cent so far. 1801 on the half, and 1802 on the large. How many do you think will have dates? Also, how many do you think will be draped bust? I will reveal the answers later tonight as well as some close ups. Sorry, not sorry Tom

What do you think happened out there? You think it’s a scattered hoard? Or was it some kind of trading post or early market of some kind? With that much copper there’d almost have to be silver or dare I dream….gold? This is a promising start to something crazy, no doubt! Just unreal…

What a site! By the looks of the one coin you have shown. You will get a date on 2/3s? Great hunt. Thanks for sharing.

This is one of the most amazing posts I’ve seen! Crazy! Can’t wait to see what else you uncover at that site. Congrats and good luck on the follow up digs!

I was not able to clean them all, but you know the harsh reality of old coppers around here  I did see a few 1802's and a possible 1797 but most are very toasty. As soon as air hit them they started flaking:

the mountain of copper oxide flakes is hefty! :wow: I'd say I've gotten a little over halfway through them and they are indeed all DB's... insane... I really cant explain how they got there, its almost as though someone had a roll of draped busts and dropped them. Weird part is, there were 31 total coins found and they all came from 31 different holes. Some were very close to eachother, but all were solo. I have a pretty busy weekend but hope to get some more pictures up tomorrow, and I might just be able to sneak out there for an hour or two before work on Sunday. Will keep this post updated, I appreciate the comments!

:wow2: I'm trying to imagine how you must have felt, uncovering 29 large cents, one at a time... and the two half-cents besides. Congratulations, Jeff!

Amazing haul, but frustrating as heck! So many of my coppers look good out of the ground, but flake away to nothing as they dry. Still fun to pull out that many, though!
