Hijacking, is it a crime or a compliment

BTW Sarge, it's to dang cold here to go digging this week huh? I would start a thread complaining about it but I don't wanna hijack anyone else that is complaining about the cold and staying indoors. :hornetsnest:

Well, now I'm really embarrassed. Checking your earlier post I see you were serious about the Calvin and Hobbes quote. I wasn't serious about hijacking it. I saw the quote among a number of other qoutes in a email one of my friends sent me a while ago (I'll PM it to you if you like). I liked it so I used it. Sorry about the crackpot reply I made to your comment but I thought you were joking. I suppose I'm as guilty of hijacking as anyone else so, rather than be a hypocrite I'll drop off the forum. Sorry again.

Not a problem Sarge. You are welcome to keep it. I like to change my signature line frequently and it is due for a change. As a matter of fact, I'll change it after this post.

GEEZE Sarge! I can't take my eye's off you for a second can I? Can't wait til we go huntn, I tend to poke the hornets nest myself so look out world! First lemme say the terms "they" "themselves" or "hijacker" I use is not directed towards anyone in particular, trying to answer the best I can.....;) I read thru all of that, that was NOT hijacking IMHO. Looked to me like that thread died, you started your thread from roughly the same point in the show and away the topic went again. AND, may I add, looked like your thread went better than the first one. Does that mean that the show is getting more interesting or was the thread CREATOR just more interesting and a better writer than the first thread CREATOR? Maybe a little of both but I would tend to vote for the latter of the two. If someone gets their big boy panties in a wad over something like that then maybe it's time to assess themselves instead of the "Hijacker" Maybe they are having a bad day and looking to vent? Maybe their skills at the keyboard are not quite up to snuff and they less than adequate? I guess there is a fine line somewhere on this sort of thing but I don't know where it is? That's why the mods are here I guess, not only to keep all the bickering and cra* down to a min. but to watch for things like 5 topics on the same thing at the same time..........:my2cents:

LOZ, seriously, I need to get my lazy butt off this computer and get back to attending to my physical fitness needs. I have a fully equipped gym in my home and unlimited access to the gym, swimming pool and sauna at JBLM. But, instead of pumping iron I press computer keyboard keys and remotely instill angst. Explaining it is hard right now, but I expect it to get harder as the latter years of my life take their toll and my brain starts rebelling when asked to explain anything. Ideas are a source of nutrition to the brain, and just like the muscles of my body, without nutrition and exercise they atrophy and die. My fear is that my brain, due to lack of use and stimulation will be gone before my body is. That's scary! So, I start stupid threads on stupid things like hijacking because I understand that I'm not alone in this wicked aging process and anyone/everyone on the forum is looking for SOMETHING they can comment on. True, hijacking has nothing to do with metal detecting but neither does my Fiskars (garden) digger or the little Cen-Tech hand held metal detector we've morphed into a pin pointer. Hijacking is a common term used on the forum and it apparently instills angst also. Unless you ocassionally dump some fresh water into the stream it gets stagnant and eventually stops flowing. If that stream is the thought process of your brain you have no need for that Etrac or fancy finds pouch. It's a lot easier to take a stream which already exists (FMDF) and dump some water (my thread on hijacking) into it to get it moving again. When I enter the forum I check the threads being posted along the right side of my screen. If there are two threads by the same name I don't get upset, I check both threads and follow the most interesting. As in the case of one thread the guy making the original complaint jumped threads and continued posting. My wife and I spend much of our time outside doing "things" and I am looking forward to starting our travels again as soon as her health allows. Until then I put stupid threads on a forum for people looking for things to talk about..and the "Curse of Oak Island" and "Thread/Site Hijacking" sounded like good topics. That said I'll limit my posts to totally applicable topics in the future.

As you know, I live about three blocks from the McNeil Island ferry dock at Steilacoom. Having worked on the island for nearly 20 years I have became pretty familiar with some areas of a place, it being a 138 year old Federal/State prison, that most people never see..beyond the windows of the cell blocks anyway. In 2012 they closed the prison down and left the complete institution open to nature. The Special Committment Center now occupies the center portion of the island, but hopefully, one day they will abscond also. It would be totally mind blowing to get on that Island with a metal detector and be allowed unlimited access to the inmate work areas. While participating in a 10 person group of officers equipped with the most basic of metal detectors, Radio Shack I think) we found over 300 articles made of metal within a area less than 2 acres of activity yard. And, although many of the items were fabricated weapons, some were things recieved as contraband through the mail and hidden to prevent confiscation by staff during searches. When the weather breaks maybe you can come down for a day or two and, although I doubt we can dig McNeil I have a friend who lives on Anderson Island (same ferry dock) and maybe we can find Ezra Meekers stash of gold. Until then we have some time blocked in at the Ocean City and Twin Harbors campgrounds. You know with a digging permit you can (conditionally) dig these places. If interested in coming down for a while send me a PM.

I have posted in the past on other threads looking for a Garrett propointer but it seems that nobody is reading them particular threads because i havn't gotten many replies. Looks like this thread is getting lots of views so i will post this again in hopes that enough people will read this that may have an extra propointer for sale. Hey guys and gals i would like to get another propointer so if you happen to have an extra feel free to pm me or better yet post it right here. Thanks in advance.

I really don't need a propointer as i already have one. Just leaving an example of hijacking as i see it and sorry to hijack your thread with my above post.

popatop, I love my propointer too and it is one of my most valued MDing tools. Had someone actually offered you a propointer in response to your post it would please the dickens out of me. My example of hijacking is as follows: Popatop needs a propointer and wants this thread to present his need on so I'm renaming it "Hijacking a thread/digging site-crime or compliment, Oh yea, and I need a propointer too". Anybody who wants to continue this thread on the topic of "I need a propointer", please be assured I really won't feel a thing. Thanks for your example popatop you've moved the thread ahead two more posts.

Is it considered Hijacking a thread when you start another thread that someone else already has a topic for. I have even seen the exact question or word for word the same topic title.

That is extremely interesting msand. Would you please see if you can find that thread and copy the link for me. I tried to use the search option to look for a "THREAD", and, although I did find the word "hijack" contained in posts several times, I couldn't find a thread titled "hijack". I would hate to hijack a thread already posted on hijacking and if this is what I did it was totally inintentional and possibly due to my ineptness in manuevering through the forum. Perhaps I need the help of long time F(riendly)MDF members who are familiar with the proper use of it's tools and this may be a good opportunity to add to my ability to effectively use the forum.

Double unintentional hijack.....thats a 2 shot penalty.

It has been clearly established that I stole another members post by using the title of a currently playing TV program. PLEASE continue posting your comments to those other threads. I admit I was in error and surrender the name of the thread to anyone else who wants to tend it. But this offer is tended with warning that it may have been used previously and their reputation as a moral person my become indellibly sullied. I will not mention the name of the program again for for fear of a triple hijack, and, as a fact, I'm fearful of using any word related to metal detecting or treasure hunting on a forum where even mentioning the name invites a potential hijack accusation. My question was, and the topic of THIS thread is, a question of how members look upon redirection of another THREAD by inserting their own thoughts. I believe the answer has been determined that it is a "crime" rather than a "compliment" to add anything more, although it may be significant and interestting to another thread, regardless of how meandering the thread is or inappropriately named it is. Every member who responded to my plagirized thread and especially the guy who admittedly was so disinterested in the program he went to sleep rather than watch it, PLEASE accept my profound appologies. I am relatively new to the forum and am learning to navigate the tools also. I thought the Minelab video was a keeper.

NO, no I was not talking about this Thread. I was contributing to what I have seen.
