What happens if you just wrap your coil in electrical tape, like a hockey stick?

I haven't tried it, but two thoughts that come to mind .....

I would think it would wear quickly and wouldn't be thick enough to provide protection against accidentally scraping across rocks.

Would it leave a buildup of sticky residue, to which everything would cling?

I think it's a great idea, but being a beachcomber, it's not a viable solution for me.

Thanks for the tip, I've been putting off using my 12.5 inch coil (Imaging GTI), because I can't find a cover for it.
I'll pick up some bed liner spray tomorrow!

I've read other posts here that state bedliner spraying might void manufacturer warranty. If you have a new machine, you might want to check, before spraying.

I don't bother with coil covers(unless I already had one with coil when bought). If I get to where I spend enough time detecting I wear out a coil I'll happily buy a new coil and cover!
