Have you ever met anyone famous in public?

We make big led lights at the factory where I work, I am a repair technician and have been traveling a bit lately testing & repairing lights. Last week I was sent to Miami Beach,Florida to fix lights at the Miami Heat arena and the Miami Dolphin stadium. Came home for a day then went to Minneapolis,Minnesota to do some work on the lights at the Minnesota Timberwolves stadium. While in Miami I saw Josh Richardson in the hall at the arena and shook his hand.

Once I was in the Milwaukee airport flying out to some damn where...must have been in the early 90's I think..early in the morning, anyway, there was two older guys sitting there in the waiting area to board with me...

One skinny guy was rattling on an on about Glock handguns and how cool they were and all the technical specifications with a rabid fascination and exhuberance about Glocks and handguns, and special loads, etc. He was wide awake and animated even at this early hour...going on and on about it as gun guys are apt to do.....

The other guy was a tad portly, just sitting there looking bored and sleepy, saying occasionally, "Oh, thats cool" Or "gee thats swell"...You could tell He didnt care a bit about it and was just commenting to humor his friend...

I sat there looking at these two old guys, listening to them, thinking...I've heard these voices somewhere before....Then Yep! I got it! It was Eddie Haskel and the Beaver! No kidding! They flew into Milwaukee to host the grand opening of a supermarket or some damn thing...maybe it was a parade...I cant remember, it was a long time ago..sort of surreal...Eddie sure knew a lot about guns and Glocks in particular...as if they were talking about baseball cards...strange...I didnt say nothing, just sort of enjoyed the dialog sitting there, wondering what becomes of child actors, well, now you know!.....

walked in to an elevator while delivering mail and saw sylvestor stallone with his entourage longest 5 flights in an elevator i've ever had very awkward .I also won't approach a celebrity.

Back in the 90's I belonged to a group that did wild west shows. We were hired to perform at Michael Martin Murphy's West Fest at Copper Mountain, Colorado. There were celebrities all over the place there that we saw. I have never had any interest in talking to them or meeting them. But we were standing back stage waiting to perform and I had to pee. So off I went in search of a restroom. I found a locker room and went in to find my relief. I looked around one direction and didn't find my destination so I headed around the other way. The was a couple of guys sitting on a bench so I asked if they knew where the restroom was. One said he thought it was back around a wall so off I went. Later, when I saw them on stage singing, I realized it was Brooks & Dunn.

At the end of that weekend the last performance was by a Native American dance group. At the very end of their act they did a "Friendship Dance" where they invited all of the performers from the weekend to come dance with them. When it came time to pair off with a partner I turned to a young Native girl. Seeing my cowboy costume she turned away and wouldn't dance with me. As I was standing there kind of lost without a partner a woman came up and said, "I'll dance with you" and off we went. After it was all done and we were walking away my wife, who had been watching from the crowd said, "I can't believe who you were dancing with!!". I said "Who?" Shocked she said, "That was K.D Lang!!" "Oh, ok".

famous people

My wife runs in to them all the time, she works at the airport and is always comming home and saying i saw so and so today. Mostly Baseball and footbally players, some have signed things for her. I would probably walk right by and not noticed .

Had one I sold a laptop to at a old job, before more of the fame. As time went on seemed To change became more and more forgetful of old friends. Always wish him the best. (Yes I'm not saying name)

Also saw Morgan freeman and his (wife?) getting into their car while we were getting in my truck. Told my friend hey there is Morgan freeman! And we both continued to get in my truck. He looked nervous at first then relieved we were not running to hound him. Someone I know gave me some insight to why it went how it did and why he looked nervous. I'll leave it to my own knowledge.
He is one of those people I would enjoy a chat with but I'm not a celebrity chaser lol.

As a young kid apparently hung out with Fran dresher. I remember being at some show fillings. But don't remember the hanging out at her house as I'm told we did. I was young go figure.

Seen many others. In fact a few weeks ago my friend was driving next to Ryan seacrest on the freeway.

I guess it's living where I do that gives better chances but for me I just see celebrities as other average people. Yea they get fans and fame but really they still eat, poop, shower, sleep and are another person..

Wow. Everybody sees The Beaver. Eddie Haskell was a cop in real life. I believe he was shot a couple times as well.

Since I've been working in television news since 1988, I've had sooooo many "famous" people visits. A majority are obviously sports figures and politicians but on occasion the actors and such come by. I don't factor beauty queens as celebrities. I've worked with some and they're only celebrities in their own cranium. One Miss Wisconsin I worked with was one of the most self-absorbed people I've ever met.

Some are considered famous but at the time, were nothing but a footnote. When Barack Obama was running for the Illinois Senate he hung out in my control room for a bit. Politicians do just about nothing to my "give-a-sh*t o-meter".

Musicians: Saw Luciano Pavarotti in an airport. Hold on here metalheads, but I met Kiss in a hotel in Dubuque in the 80's along with some of their opening act, Dokken. The Oak Ridge Boys came into work once. One oddity is Cheap Trick because Rick Nielsen lives about a half mile from my house. Got to go into his basement in the 90's to shoot a commercial. He had dozens of guitars and other really cool stuff. If you live here and haven't bumped into him at least once, you're not looking. He's weird. Even his lawn tractor has that unique Cheap Trick checkerboard pattern.

TV people: Last year I met Jerry Mathers ("The Beaver"). He was in town for some Diabetes event. Funny thing for the old-timers here. I met Bob Keeshan (Captain Kangaroo) while in college. Believe it or not, he was a bit of an a-hole. Met the guys from American Pickers when they were in town shooting an episode with Rick Nielsen of all people. Mike Wolfe was gracious enough for a quick pic. Frank Fritz looked like he just rolled out of bed so I didn't bother.

Sports figures: So, so many. I used to freelance direct for a sports call-in television show in Chicago. Met just a ton of Chicago athletes. Most memorable one was when I had a half-hour conversation with Ernie Banks. We talked extensively about.......hockey. Pat Hughes and Ron Santo came by once. Literally bumped into Harry Caray at opening day at Wrigley. Lots of wrestlers too. Hulk Hogan came in sometime in the 90's to promote his stupid movie. Nice guy. Sheamus came in during their tour. Showed up at 7am dressed in a killer suit. If you remember wrestler John Layfield (J.B.L.), he is just one massive dude....just enormous. Wikipedia says he's 6'6" and 290lbs. Well he showed up about a half hour late (around 8am) and was just HAMMERED and a little surly. Didn't want to piss this guy off. Oksana Baiul showed up like an hour early and hung out with me and my producer in the control room, gold medal and everything. Didn't ask to hold it but couldn't stop looking at it. Since an AHL hockey team is here, I can also say I've gone out for beers with some guys whose names are on the Stanley Cup.

I'm rambling......sorry. I will say this. Now everybody takes selfies with celebrities. I still rarely do it. They're gracious enough to do it but I still feel like I'm inconveniencing them. I just like having normal conversations with them and maybe get a handshake. I think they like taking a break from being a celebrity and like talking about normal stuff like how their spouse won't refill the toilet paper, etc.

George Foreman at Fort Ord California in 1985. He was MC for the Army Boxing matches.

Bill Walton at an Airport Bar in Houston, Texas in the 1990s. He autographed some stuff for people who asked, but I just kept drinking my beer.

Roy P. Benavidez, Fort Meade Maryland, late 1980s. Hero.

1971 was my senior year in college. I was fortunate enough to get selected to caddy in the 1971 PGA golf championship, held in West Palm Beach, Fla. My man missed the cut so he gave me his badge to get my wife in the gate for the last two rounds. When we pealed off his name it said "Committee". We heard Bob Hope was in the club house on the final day. He was there to present the winners trophy. We thought maybe we could play on her "badge" so we went inside and headed for the stairs. The security guard looks at her badge and spoke friendly. Then we he saw mine say Caddy he stopped me. My wife turned around and said he's with me. So they let me pass. We actually stood shoulder to shoulder with the great one but his back was to us. Still a thrill.

Lets see, when I worked at a gas station I saw Steve Perry of Journey in the van that was refuelling.
Also saw Robin Williams in a store with what I think was a child of his.
Seen a local newscaster. Thats it.
I don't care to meet any celeb.

Once on an L.A. vacation in 1993, I ran into an unshaven and slipper-shod actor William Windom. He played numerous judges and lawyers on various tv shows back then. He also starred in his tv show "My World and Welcome To It". He was in a local Van Nuys corner store buying a box of Archway cookies and a lottery ticket. :D Also, I used to attend the yearly "Mammoth Music Mart" sale in Skokie, Illinois every autumn that was held to raise money for the Les Turner A.L.S. Foundation. Dick Clark was in attendance more than once to publicize the event and would meet and greet us before we entered the sale.

I also met singer Billy Preston and Badfinger guitarist Joey Molland at Beatlefest '87 Chicago and they autographed some records for me. I took these pictures there.

When I was manager of Ashburn's ice cream parlor, George Foreman frequented the place. My best friend took me to his home-they raised Dachshunds and gave him one. I went to college with James Robinson-preacher/evangelist on Life Today. I shaked hands with Anita Bryant when she visited a local church. I chatted with two of the Dallas Cowboys at a business here- one who dropped Roger Staubach's infamous pass in the end zone that would have eventually won the game. There are others-I have been extremely blessed all my life.

When I was 16, in 1977, I drove up next to Ronald Reagan at a red light. He was originally from my town and this was before he was President. His car, and his one car escort, were trying to make a right turn into traffic and were delayed long enough for me to pull up next to him, but he was only there for a second before his car turned and rushed off. Over the years I saw him several other times when he was in town, both before and while he was president.

I'da figured him a Rottie kind of guy at least...I remember Ken Norton....I talked to a big SOB guy who fought him once...He said it was like trying to fight with a dinosaur....I like dachsunds though...good story, I had no idea Foreman like those little guys...cool...

Well, there were tigers and other animals on his farm. When I went he had just flipped a 100 lb. sack of food on his shoulder and was carrying it around like a towel. BTW, it was my friend who bred and raised the full blood Dachshunds and gave it as a gift to Big George. He was one heck of a nice guy.
