Hi,

Longtime photographer, travel about 40,000 miles/year throughout New Mexico and Colorado. Looking to purchase a metal detector (Minelab Vanquish 540?) to explore some of the interesting, remote, abandoned locations I encounter in my travels.

More research to do on NM laws related to metal detecting, ghost towns, relics, etc. — I realize there are restrictions here — but hoping I can find some fun, legal spots to hunt. Or ask permission to do so.

Thanks for having me! I’ve already learned a lot, browsing through the forum.

Cheers!

Welcome from central coast CA

.... More research to do on NM laws related to metal detecting,....

Remember, that there are scores of levels/types of public land. For example: Federal , state, county, and city. And within each of THOSE is various sub-types.

And in the wonderful digital age that we live in, there's practically NO ENTITY that doesn't have it's park rules, muni codes, laws, etc.... written down somewhere in digital form. Eg.: Dogs on leash, closes at sunset, no fireworks, etc.... Therefore, if it doesn't say "no md'ing" , then presto: Not prohibited.

Naturally use common sense and don't tromp around obvious historic sensitive monuments during archie conventions, despite any such ambiguity, doh ! )
