Met a couple the other day who lost a gold wedding ring three years ago in their yard.
I will take a stab at finding it.

I would like to start with low sensitivity thinking it may not be too deep.

Any rule of thumb to approximate how deep it might be after three years?

Can't be very deep, I'd hunt that spot just like other sites. Low and slow. Good luck.

About 20 years ago, my wife had made a Gold Charm with the dog's name. At the time, we lived in an area that had a wooded area behind the house. Overall land area was about 1/2 acre.

One day he runs outside to do his business and his gold charm was gone.

We spend well over 3 years looking for it, few hours here and there. Could not find it. I was facing a move because of the job and knew I had to take another serious effort or loose it forever.

I bought bunch of flag markers and set up a grid search. Took me about a month of weekends doing long 6-7 hour searches. Eventually found it along with bunch of other things.

A systematic approach worked for me, best of luck to you.
