First day out and learned Hard Lesson !

Yes, Lesche digger is great, just don't pry on it too hard because they break pretty easily. They cut through sod better than anything else out there though. Worth the money. I use the nitrile coated gloves that come in a box from Costco. Cut resistant and you still have good tactile feel.

I always wear gloves while MDing. I've found way too many pieces of broken glass, razor blades, and other sharp objects not to wear them.

As far as digging tools go, I use this 12'' Serrated Edge Digging tool For Metal Detecting from Amazon (around $13). Here are some of the neat specs considering its price-range:

  • Made out of heavy duty carbon steel
  • Has a blaze orange handle (so it's harder to lose)
  • Comes with a sheath
  • Serrated edge cuts easily through roots
  • Cuts nice deep, clean plugs
  • Appears to be built surprising close to the quality of the Garrett Edge Digger (but at a fraction of the cost)
