Explain your Username

Well this is kind of an intro too. As the name implies I live in the Houston area and I have spent over a year going through old posts to learn to id - the lurker part. Lot of good instructional stuff in some of those old post - someone should write a book. I have been around the hobby and some seriously involved folks since the 70s, but never had my own detector. Finally bought an Ace 250. Not able to get out much because of physical and time limitations, but I'm building up to retirement. Really enjoy the forums and I may be able to chime in on ocasion. - Richard

When I first got my detector of course I went out in my own yard and discovered a weird silver looking metal that rang up as silver. We took it had it acid tested and was silver. Found out my yard was a junkyard way way back and a fire burnt all the cars melting all the silver solder into the ground. Once we found this out my wife and I went crazy detecting and digging and at the end of an evening we turned back to look at the yard. I said man it looks like a badger tore through our yard, my wife said yep he sure was busy, so there you have bzbadger

Hdnsouth. Working construction my entire life during the winter months outside whenever asked what I was doing. "Head'n south as soon as I can" was my usual reply

When I started re-started my stamp collecting, I had forgotten so much, then when I joined the SCF forum, I use StampVirgin as my handle.

When I stopped stamps and started coins, I was already signed on to CCF (the coin counterpart) so kept the handle.
When I joined this forum I was (and still am) new to metal detecting so I choose the name MDVirgin.

Which is kind of funny because MD is the abbr. of the state I live in. (Maryland).
I hope to learn a lot from folks and have been an avid reader and watching youtube videos of hunting.

Mine was chosen from a Magic The Gathering card that was sitting in front of me a few years back when I was making a fantasy football team, It said choose a team name I was like Ummmmm.... I looked down saw the card "Dash Hopes" and have been using it for all my usernames since lol.

I'm a redhead with pale skin and freckles, and when I was in Scotland, tourists would come up and ask directions from a "native". So my daughter started calling me Scottygirl and it stuck. The avatar coin is one I would love to find someday.......

:digginahole: "I Dig WV" is two-fold.... I like (Dig) West Virginia where I live and where I do my digging...:gottaluv:

Golden is from the movie "The Outsiders" where Johnny tells Ponyboy to stay Golden (Pure). The Oaks is from my property where I value the majesty of the might oaks trees and the long life & slow growth of the tree. Plus, they are great for feeding wildlife!

I hope the Golden Oaks will give me the endurance and strength to keep going until I find the pure gold!
