Houghton Lake & Lansing

Hello, I am in Wisconsin but my wife grew up in Saginaw. I am in Michigan throughout the year different times, in Houghton Lake area some times in the summer and other times in the East Lansing area. Can anyone shed any light on rules & regs of the Lansing area? Seems Lansing City parks are OK, but Ingham Co parks are off limits?

I talked with someone about coins making their way back up to detectable levels. Yesterday I got a 1958 Rosie and a 1944 Wheatie. The curb strips seem to be worked pretty clean in Greenville but I got lucky. Seen lots of bald spots in grass here so I know I had competition earlier this summer before I got started. Anyone have ideas of how coins come back into a level they can be detected or would you say they just got back laying flat so easier to detect. The two coins I found were only 2-3 inches down. I got maybe 5 coins the other detector couldn't pin point since August its October 29th today. I have a 10 volt on the batteries and want to wear them out before the ground freezes. Then buy new ones next spring. I would love to hit the curb strips in some of the other small towns around Greenville in hopes people don't do them in those small towns.

Frost heave can move buried objects in those states lucky enough to freeze. I'm in Kalamazoo area btw.

Flushing...

Hello Flushing here.
My eleven year old son and I both recieved new Bounty Hunters for Christmas. I am looking for someone to detect with. Will travel within reason. I also spend some weekends in the summer up in Lake Mi. near Clare.

New member here. Just bought myself a Ace 350. I'm from Traverse City (grew up in Kalkaska). I've been trying to get some friends interested in metal detecting so I could have a buddy to go hunting with.

I've been researching like crazy for some places around here that might be a good spot to start. When spring comes around I should be ready to go.

Welcome Loco Bob, I live in Grand Blanc and would be happy to help you out.

Joe from Kalamazoo here. Actually made it out this weekend with my Christmas present. Sure was fun detecting in December.

Anyone else in the Kalamazoo area into treasure hunting and metal detecting look me up. Would love to talk more. I need a detecting buddy or two.

haha, yeah I was thinking about going out on my next day off... can't remember the last time you could still see the grass at the end of december for living in the snow belt. ground i bet is pretty solid.

Jason here from Lennon new to detecting. Bought a new Garrett AT Pro last spring and a Bounty hunter for my son. Found lots of change and a nice jack knife.

I get up to your neck of the woods from time to time. Haven't found much up there yet, but I just started taking my detector with me to a few parks around there, and have only scratched the surface.

Where are you? I'm not near Detroit, but I get to the Garden City area and points further west from time to time.

New in Lansing

Hi Everyone, I am from the Lansing area and just bought a used Minelab Explorer II in August. Been having a blast figuring it out. Once I got it down I have done pretty well in those "hunted out" old Lansing area parks. I found 13 silver and 43 wheats this fall. One of those was an 1892 barber quarter I found in Moores Park. So don't let anyone talk you into thinking parks are hunted out!

I think it would be a lot more fun to hunt with someone else so if anyone is from around here let me know [email protected]. HH!

Greenville Michigan Coin Hunter

Just peeking back in on this tread. Like early on in this tread from last year its cold out there and I am guessing digging is hard work. I put off one more hunt of a school yard now it is too cold and the ground is hard. I still haven't gotten into the Eagle ll I bought to see if I can get it working like it should. I will get new batteries for the M6 in the spring and if I get around and fix the Eagle ll I will put it to use playing when the ground is down to grass seeing what is in the ground around here . I am still hopeing to find people to hunt with that live in Greenville or close by. Rolling down the road and reading old newspaper articles online has me wanting to try detecting in the fields. On Grand Rapids Craigslist I seen someone is selling a 5.3 inch coil for most of the newer White's metal detectors it listed my M6 when I checked a site out on it. They want $125 for it . I wonder if it is worth adding to my collection. Would be nice if I could do a deal and make a trade with the person. If your around Greenville in the Spring and see a old guy , white baseball cap swinging a M6 along the sidewalk that would be me.
