Sort of first time metal detecting.
Hello all, I joined the forum because i did a Dutchess County metal detecting search on google and found this post as I live in Poughkeepsie, NY. A couple of years ago I borrowed an old Garrett metal detector (dont remember the model, I'll edit this is i do) and needles to say i was hooked the second i used it even though i never really found anything but junk (it also never seemed to work quite right lol). So finally after a couple of years wanting one really badly, I decided to just randomly buy a cheaper one than the one I really want, a Garrett Ace 250. So I got a Bounty Hunter Quick Silver and it came in the mail yesterday so of course I had to go and test it out. My Girlfriend lives in New Paltz so since i had it delivered there (long story) and i was already there we went down to the Wallkill river front by the trails. and even though I didn't find any silver I had a blast. I did find some coins all though they were surface finds next to a picnic bench. The only coin i legit found and dug up was in my girlfriends backyard, to most a 1976 penny is nothing but to me its treasure as it is the very first thing i found with the new detector. anyway i found: a rod that looks like it was either an arrow end (i doubt, it has a lot of iron on the end) or a camping tent rod, an iron rod, a Guiness can, a piece of iron or steel that has a mirror finish on it, 3 bottle caps (1 Pepsi, 2 Guiness), a fishing weight, the surface coins (1 quarter, 1 nickel, 3 pennies), what looks like a car key (I don't know the make or anything as the key doesn't say it on it, but a key is a key haha), and of course the 1976 penny I dug up. Sorry for the long first post and run on sentences. If anyone is interested in meeting up and hunting let me know as I have no one to go with (girlfriend isn't to keen on the whole getting dirty idea haha).
The goods lol...
Well I hope all is good and happy hunting to everyone.
