Double clasp buckle

Just an interresting buckle. It looked old to me so I hung onto it. I've searched several sites and cannot find an exact match. It is similar to some civil war buckles I've located, however I think it is newer than that. Any Ideas?

For some reason it reminds of some buckles we found that belonged to a horse's harness or thereabouts.

Was any leather still attached?

No leather however I did find a piece of a #9 crotal bell nearby.

I found one very similair. I will guess that it is from a horse strap. I found mine at a location that had a horse raceing track about 100 yrs ago . Next to it out came horshoe pieces and tacks.
