Just try detecting with your machine turned off. Let the funkospheric particles waft into your consciousness.Eventually your internal chi-meter will awaken one of your previous lives which can tell you where dig a hole. Same results!!!

that is precisely what i intend to do!

Or, deep down he had an idea of where a septic tank would be, and the ideomotor effect kicked in. My grandparent's house had a septic tank, and there was really a limited area where it could possibly be. Logically, it wouldn't be beneath the tree where the roots would interfere, and the builder would not have put it under the concrete patio. Even if my grandfather hadn't marked it, it just couldn't be anywhere else.

ideomotor effect does not dismiss validity of dowsing because fundamental to the practice is an operator that must receive, interpret and display signals that are the results observed.

also logic must play some roll for us to find the results intelligable.

Although I respect the opinions put forth here... I must point out, that NEVER has anyone proven this ability under controlled testing... even when a large reward is offered. I realize that no amount of debate will resolve this, however, since this has been tried again and again, with no one able to prove that it works, I will side with science. RickO

offering a large reward only strengthens the resolve by the offeror to dismiss the pratice because they would have to pay a large sum if the claim of the offeree is shown to be not false.

e.g. those guys that offer rewards have a vested interest in debunking the practice becase should they every payout their gravy train will be over and they will lose allot of money.

I remember a TV special from years ago hosted by the late Bill Bixby, with appearances by James Randi and Penn & Teller. They tested a dowser, under conditions agreed to by all parties before the test. There were several boxes, which contained either water or a sandbag. The very first hit the dowser had turned out to be a sandbag, so he failed.

I'm with RickO. I'm sure that with the rewards offered, that if dowsing was real and replicable, someone would have come forward to collect by now.

i repect that the terms of the test you cite were "do or die" one time only, however, in order for a test to be statistically valid there must be at least 1000 attempts by the dowser. thats not exacty gonna' fly in saturday afternoon tv.

got my ideomotors goin'

i got ideomotors going last night using using my carnilian pendulum. they said to search he dog run at my local park. the dog run is partitioned into two with each half being about .5 acre.

i don't expect the results to be much different than what i have observed in other areas in the park. it's just what my ideomotor said.

method: asked yes/no question with circular pendulum motion indicating 'yes' and linear motion indicating 'no'.

notes: the dog run is the most logical place for me to search at that park next because dog owners have higher income and i suspect that they do not litter like other visitors to the park for pic-nics, kids hanging out and such.

With all due respect.. that is total garbage. RickO

I watch the TV show Myth busters and their combine scientific methods were unable to dispell this one.

I have seen every mythbusters and I am pretty sure they never took on dowsing. Considering the gigantic mountain of scientific evidence against
the practice of dowsing I really can't imagine two critical thinkers like Jamie and Adam giving it a confirmed or plausible.

Please post a link to any such episode .

I'm looking for this evidence but can only find trials involving the detection of water--can you post any links that deal with locating conduits or other metal items?

I think this arguement has be ongoing for 1000's of years , I am pretty sure it will continue long after we are all dead and gone...... I have only seen it in action one time, and this guy was positive he would locate a cache of Half dollars, he dug and dug and dug ..Then he came up with some piss-poor excuse about how it was too ''loud out here'' then he claimed it must have been due to the train tracks located close by..........I guess if you put enough enegry and time into something you can create your own reality........As for the Mythbusters .....they are nothing more than a couple dweebs that found nitche and have exploited it to the fullest, the tests are always flawed and the experiments nothing more than childish horseplay on a bigger scale...........:D

I think it's been scientifically proven that communication with spirits tends to be extremely difficult near railroad tracks, but what confuses the matter is that railroad tracks are easily located with dowsing.

When I was a kid I tried dowsing, and it worked in the sense that at one point the stick I was using pointed down, apparently of its own accord. However, I don't know if it really worked, because I never dug there, and I could have moved the stick, just not consciously. It was pretty weird though, because it did feel like something beyond my power was pulling it down. (probably gravity ) By the way, I'm not really one to believe in stuff like dowsing without a scientific explanation.

"I see our tax dollars are hard at work !"

Now that is a statement made out of total ignorance. You have no idea what I do or how my life is conducted. Please use some common sense before posting. RickO

Although the posts on this forum regarding dowsing cannot be taken as scientifically valid, I would venture to say after reading these posts, that dowsing seems to be very effective at initiating heated discussion!
