You know, forums can be funny things. I've been a mod on one with different subject matter and you never can make everyone happy!
One of the key things is they actually are the property of the forum owner(s). Sort of like their front porch. They usually have rules and a culture of their own just like your home. Folks drop by to visit with each other but it is on the owners property still and, just like your home, they want the visitors to obey their house rules.
I've visited in homes where politics is not discussed and I honored that, In others the political discussions can get pretty warm and there I honored their ways. I wouldn't be cussing in front of my friends 4 year old girl but might let a word slip if we're a bunch of old guys having a beer after dark.
So like visiting another's home visiting a forum is, to me anyways, about trying to respect the rules they wish to use on their property. If we don't like it we don't have to come and visit but then we might miss some good company.
