Been trying to track down the owner of some property that shows a house on it on the 1940 maps. All that is left today is an old metal barn. After failing through online search methods i went to the county assessors office and got the owners information, also asked if they had any documents regarding the age of the property. The oldest record they had of the structures on the property dates back to 1934. So after stopping at the wrong house I was pointed towards the local hardware store. I talked to the owner and was denied permission to hunt the property... For now. As it's deer season and he lets hunters on the land for that he said even though they are good hunters he doesn't want me to end up dead. So he told me to check back after deer season. So all in all it wasn't a total loss, I just have to wait till Jan. to try and get permission again :(

aww hell...lets us deer hunters have our fun in the fall

season isnt that long anyway, and the old coins and stuff arent gonna slip off and hide from ya any more than normal.

after deer season, the woods will be easier to hunt anyway. less brush..grass is shorter....etc.

but the snow could be piled up and the ground may freeze.

thats why i like living down south...no problems like that here!!

Yeah, learned at a young age not to play in the woods during hunting season. Those big city folks are just crazy with a gun, and a few cold beers. Does a calf really look that much like a deer? Some folks get so excited, so focused, they don't consider where that bullet might go, if they miss the shot.

I must say I love MD'ing and deer hunting, but if a md'er was swinging on the property I was on when I'm deer hunting I would must likely deposit some lead or a arrow or two in front of him to find!

Good luck on the permission after the season!

If you were to go detecting in the woods, during hunting season, would it be better to use headphone, so as not to scare off the deer. Or go unplugged, so the hunters know where you are at? But if you are scaring off the deer, wouldn't the hunters be a little upset, and know where to take out their aggravation?

I would say your better off not going into the woods were there are hunters during deer season...... Most parks and forest preserves don't allow hunting, but I would check.

The hunters get up early, make the trip there, and are in their stand before it gets light out. Not cool after all that when a guy comes walking by MD'ing pushing the deer around.

At least you still have the opportunity to detect, right now it is 10 below and snow since the 10th or so, my md season is over unless i dind ground that isnt frozen (usually only player like this are bottle digs or can digs which are hard to come by .

This^^^

I purposely avoid the woods this time of year, partly b/c I don't feel like getting shot but more b/c I wouldn't want somebody walking up on my spot while i'm trying to hunt and chasing all the deer away. Now, if you were to purposely drive deer towards me, that's a different story
