Found a knife blade deep in the woods today. Can't decide if it's just a cutlery knife blade or maybe the blade to a dagger. I've found coins from the 1700's in this spot, but there's a lot of cross contamination from the 1930's there as well. Just seems odd for someone to be carrying a 12" thin blade knife into the woods! Let me know what you think.

While I don't know for sure, it does have the distinct look of a cutlery knife.

Maybe there might be some markings on it under the rust.

I visualize daggers as being double edged, but i am far from being a knife expert

to me it resembles an old bread knife, especially at that length and shape. I still buy the old ones whenever I see them as I have not found any modern knife that cuts bread that well. How thick is the blade? usually the bread knives were pretty thin(another reason the modern ones never seem to work as well is they are made of inferior metal that is thicker)

oh and as iggyks mentioned a dagger is a double sided blade coming to a point.

Maybe more than a bread knife.
As to being out in a field/woods, possible it was being used to butcher an animal. This activity was typically done away from the house.

Also it looks broken. So maybe it broke while being used and tossed.
