$20 when I got mine, and after waiting 20 minutes for the BG check, it was issued on the spot. PA makes it way too easy.

Should be that easy, Philly makes it hard, you need an interview, background check, references, then like an 8 week wait. As long as your background's clear you should be issued one instantly.

You managed this long in life without having a gun on your hip 24/7. Just think long and hard about it is all I ever ask. I've seen quite a few people pull their guns just because it was there when the moment did not really warrant it. All three are in jail now, two got 2 years each for an out of hand bar fight but my third friend killed a guy he saw stealing a lady's purse. He's in jail now for 20 years after being what he thought was a "hero". If you are not in physical danger don't reach for it, it's just not worth it.

You have 3 friends who had CCW's and are now in jail because it it? That is highly rare as I've never heard of any instances like that in PA. If that's the case I'd suspect it's because on NJ very strict gun laws. It's almost impossible for anyone to get a CCW in NJ as well so those guys were extremely lucky in the first place. Is your last name Bloomberg? jk

None of them are from NJ. It's almost impossible to get a conceal carry license in this state as a civilian.

I'm all for guns, i used to own quite a few. I don't want to step on anyone's toes here I understand it is everyone's right to own and gun and defend themselves with it BUT, i've just got to say; if you see someone trying to steal your car or do something else which does not threaten your life do not shoot someone over it. That's something that will affect you the rest of your life...
How would you feel if someone shot your kid who was just being stupid with his friends wanting to go for joy ride or something? We've ALL done something stupid, hopefully in our earlier years, and aren't you glad you didn't get shot over it?

I have a ccw permit and several above posts are spot on at least half the class I took was about the legal ramifications of using deadly force all states are different here in Missouri your vehicle is looked at as an extension of your home and you need no permit to have a concealed weapon in it. Next door in Kansas open carry is legal and they are trying to pass concealed without a permit. There are insurance company's that have policies to cover the legal cost and I checked a couple of them out and wow not the cheapest policy you'll have I couldn't afford it. I was raised around firearms and was taught they were like any tool there use how to handle and what they were capable of. I think I got my ccw just because I could and can't remember the last time I carried one in public.

I do beleive Pennsylvania has to issue within 45 days.

When I went they said they had a backlog and said it could be 8-10 weeks. I believe the 45 days is for the decision, they usually drag their feet right up until the end then take their time issuing it. They also require a things which are not required by the state. Philly is good for making it's own laws even if it's not allowed to do so.

Well if thats the case come to allentown 45 minutes north and apply. My renewal was processed in 6 days and i can legally carry in the complete state. Philadelphia included.

Yep it's the same permit you're issued, it's technically issued by the state and good in every part of PA as well as about 28 other states, it's just harder to get in Philly than most counties, however I believe you have to get the permit in your county of residence so as much as I'd like to get it in another county I'm stuck getting it here.

Coin Chasers absolutely right. When you're carring you need to have a whole different kind of mind set and responsibility. It's a privilege and a right to carry a weapon. Don't make the situation worse. With every bullet that comes out of you barrel there's an attorney attach to it. Think about it.

While I am a complete supporter of all law abiding citizens having the right to defend themselves with the firearm of their choice, I also strongly believe that anyone carrying a firearm open or concealed must know what they're getting into. And I strongly recommend both legal and shooting classes for those who are not familiar with the laws and/or the use of a firearm.
The use of a firearm against another person is only lawful in the defense of yourself or others, in a situation of imminent danger of serious bodily injury or death. It is not generally lawful to use it to protect property. There may be certain exceptions but in most states there are none.
Also, you should know that if you ever find yourself in a situation where you have to use lethal force against another person, you can still be arrested and charged. Self defense or the defense of others is what is called an affirmative defense. If this should happen, you still are on the hook to get an attorney to handle your case and it can go to trial. In many clear cut cases charges are not filed, but in many they are depending on the jurisdiction and how they operate.
And finally, if you should have to use that firearm and kill or hurt someone even in self defense or the defense of others, you can still be sued in some states by the person you shoot, or their family, which opens up a whole new can of worms. Plus you will have to live with the action you took for the rest of your life.
Having said all that, as a retired LEO, I do carry, and support your right to do so as well. Just be sure you know when you can and cannot pull that gun out as there are ramifications beyond what happens at that moment in time. And if you don't understand clearly when, and why a firearm can legally be used, don't put yourself at risk by carrying until you do understand it.

Not true like you said its state issued and a state background check, go anywhere to apply just like a fishing license.

I just went and checked a neighboring counties official ccw permit page and they also claim you must be a resident of that county to apply for one, and provide proof of the fact. I know I had to bring proof that I lived in my county when I applied as well. If it were allowed everyone from Philly would apply outside the county.

you are correct, if you are a resident of PA then you must apply in the county you reside..... also they also did away with the 3 references thing, so no references are required....infact I just renewed my license in December here in berks and I was in and out the door in less then a half hour with card in hand (have had my license for over 15 years now so I keep well informed on changes)
